I still haven't seen this movie nor do I care too
I'm a casual movie watcher and I saw the movie twice. This movie should be a must watch.
Classified as a horror on IMDb and Wikipedia , but when an awards on the line it's basically Eddie Murphy RAW
There's no horror or thriller category. It's comedy or drama and that's it. There's heavy elements of satire and dark comedy so it fits in that category more than drama. It's a genre bending film and doesn't fit into a box which partially why it had such impact.
If they didn't nominate it for anything because it didn't fit the categories people would complain.
I just saw a headline about this saying, "there's nothing funny about racism." This is about to be the latest episode of fake outrage.

i actually just saw this movie. pretty good 
and i'll tell you why it got that comedy label; that stupid fukking ending 
what did he say? "We're TSA, this is how we do"? dude went for a fukking laugh from the theater at that moment? ruined the entire movie for me
if it ends with him choking that girl out, and the last thing you see is police rolling up and yelling "hands on your head, dont fukkin move", and the viewer gets left thinking that his fate is being charged with murder...inifintely more powerful
and i read that he was originally trying to do that, but decided it was too dark. wellterrible decision, breh

That was the original ending. It was on YouTube and it ends with him in an orange jumpsuit convicted of murdering everyone. Peele didn't want to end the movie with the audience feeling that a black man couldn't triumph over racism. I prefer this over the original.
And the ending isn't why it was labeled a comedy. You missed all the conversations with his TSA friend or when he went to the police with the sex slaves story?

to be at that climax in the movie, and to make that unfunny of a joke. even like your saying if he just got in the car, and he drove off with his friend without saying anything. they just nodded and left. that woulda been better tooin my opinion

That's a terrible ending
That goes against everything that character did the entire movie. All throughout the movie he joked no matter how bleak the situation. As soon as he got in the car and there was that long awkward silence you knew he was going to ease the tension with joke. People laughed hard at that line in theatres and even applauded.
