I just found out about this. They did a poor job in letting the masses know.

Less than two weeks ago (June 2), it was announced that the Geto Boys are releasing their first album in more than a decade. Coinciding with an upcoming tour, the most successful group lineup of Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill announced a series of summer concert dates.

It has now been revealed that the album called Habeas Corpus will be the first Geto Boys album (spanning seven studio LPs, three compilations, and 27 years) not released on Rap-A-Lot Records. The trio has severed ties with their neighboring Houston, Texas label of many years, and instead turned to crowd-funding for the release. Similar to fellow 1980s Hip-Hop alums, De La Soul, GB’z are offering fan experiences, autographed merchandise, and more incentives to fund the album. The trio seeks $100,000 to produce the album through Kickstarter. They have secured just 1.4% of that to date, with 29 days to go. Packages extend to include “bar-hopping with Bushwick Bill” and playing a round of golf at your course, with ‘Face. Both experiences begin at $3,000. The most expensive fan gift is a $10,000 custom-made casket, autographed by the group.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Willie D made no bones about the group’s history of turmoil within. Calling the current relationship “volatile,” the MC-turned-professional boxer added, “We fukkin’ hate each other, man. It’s like, ‘Motherfukker, I don’t even wanna be onstage with you. Can we put up three stages, man? I’ll sing my verse, you sing your verse.'” With a laugh, he continued, “The Geto Boys, man, we’re that family that can’t stand each other but love each other. That’s us.”
As to the break from Rap-A-Lot, Willie claimed that it was more on the label’s side than the group’s. “I think [J. Prince is] really just tired of dealing with the Geto Boys,” said the Play Witcha Mama-maker. In 2005, the last Geto Boys album, Foundation, was a Top 20 debut on the Billboard charts—one of Rap-A-Lot’s best commercial rankings since. The Geto Boys, starting in the mid-1980s, helped launch Rap-A-Lot’s success. James Prince’s label would later find success with artists such as Tha Luniz, Bun B, Do Or Die, and Devin The Dude.
Fans of the group will be pleased to hear that production will be handled by longtime affiliates N.O. Joe, Tone Capone, and Rap-A-Lot in-house producer turned Kanye West affiliate Mike Dean. Per Willie D, Ice Cube is also slated to appear. Read Rolling Stone‘s interview with Willie D surrounding the Geto Boys reunion.
As De La Soul hit their own $110,00 goal (and beyond) in just days, is this something you plan on supporting?

How do you know how wealthy he is?

I'm speculating, dude has had multiple gold and platinum albums was a Def Jam executive and toured regularly until he semi-retired. I don't know what his financials are but it's safe to say he has made a healthy living, same with the other Geto Boys.
