increase your allowances (number of withholdings) by 1 or 2 on your W4 with your employer. You're probably having too much money withheld from your paycheck.
I've been doing that since 2015. I don't care about getting a refund. I rather have more money on my paycheck now then a refund January-April of the following year.

I only got back $80. I'm an accountant though, i would look like an idiot if i got huge refund. No finance person is letting the government hold on to their money interest free for an entire year when you can just keep it the whole time.

this. I know from the jump that I'm not getting shyt back so I dont break my neck to be xtra thirsty to file on Jan 29th or some bullshyt. Heck, I still havent filed yet. fukk it. Gets done when it gets done. Breh better get their withholding in order. Uncle Sam eats enough so why let him hold even more bread throughout the year just to have me "feel" like i'm getting something back?

Im not against the idea of lump sums, i hear you.

But hear me out too. With about as long as it takes to fill out your takes, you can setup part of your direct deposit to put money in even a basic savings acount and any day could technically be "refund day" if u want.

Im not saying its not useful, im saying bragging about it makes no sense.

Its like buying a couch or 5k, returning it, getting 5k backk 9 months later and being like "just got 5k :myman:"
This doesn't impact me at all because I feel the same way you feel ... my check every 2 weeks is a tax refund :wow:

But the people who get excited about it they don't have any money saving skills and they don't make enough to save what their tax refund would be so they really rely on that to buy cars and moving to new places and repair cars and shyt like that

I ain't knocking them :manny:

Some people probably do it because they don't manage their money well anyway. Rather just not see it and not worry about owing versus keeping more upfront and accidentally fukkin it off before it's time to pony up.

It's generally people with children who received the tax credits or "free money" as they call it, who brag. It's tough enough on lower income folks day-to-day so I don't hold it against them being happy for stacking thousands more than what they paid in. :NoSmokeP:
