ghostface vs. nas, who's the better mc?

For the sake of longevity I'll put stanning aside and remove Deck from the list, even though prime Deck was arguably the best/2nd best lyricist.

Ok lyrically speaking strictly, Nas would be anywhere from 2-4. Rae/Ghost have their unique styles harder to gauge so Nas either falls right behind them or slightly in front. I'd give Nas an edge over Meth. GZA >> Nas.

MC total package...I actually have only Ghost definitely above Nas. GZA, Rae and Nas fall anywhere between 11-15 but idk the order. I personally would give GZA the slight edge because his catalog is more consistent (albeit less albums) and he's a better lyricist, and I don't think either of the two are gonna win an award for most captivating and charismatic MC anytime soon...

Rae is probably the most skilled member overall of the Wu, but his discog has been a disappointment. He's harder to gauge.

Meth has the skills but never capitalised on his potential.

Anyway all that was admittedly pointless. The comparison is between Ghost and Nas, and Ghost is a better MC no doubt.

He's a far more captivating MC with better variance in voice/delivery/flow and subject matter...just far more creative

The ear for beats isn't even a question...Ghost has one...Nas is deaf

but let Nas stans tell you otherwise because he made the 'bible' of rap....yeah because the bible has no flaws right?


Nas as a Wu member would barely make the top 5 MCs...if he even does

was that necessary? Sometimes he rhymes to just rhyme. Most of that is impeccable rapping but some of it is try hard poetical fluency.

That's respectable. I've said before if you have Nas as your GOAT that's cool. I don't find it insulting in that regard. But he is generally put on a plateau that he doesn't belong on, at least by himself so when the stans get overly stannly with it, that's when I just say shyt for whatever reason.

The answer for me is obviously Ghost NOT by 100 miles. But yeah still Ghost.

My biggest factor in ranking is discog...said it since day 1.

Different functions. Ghost's intention on that album was to spas out creatively and say some shyt that is either incomprehensible or needed a lot of deciphering.

Nas was writing a verse that had meaning and clarity and threw out something like that. I'm nit-picking but making a point with regards to that verse being immortalised. I'm sure Nas has written 100 verses as good if not better than that tbh.

But where the MC aspect comes in, Ghost's voice/delivery was so much more captivating and attention-grabbing. And lyrically very sharp as well with his own style.

If you read verses and don't listen to songs, you may have picked Nas' verse. If you listened to it and took it in, Ghost's verse was better. There's a reason they put the closer up last.

I think that's been his strength he's dolo. With wu so many members that are all lyrical goats you tend to get outshined.

But would they be as dope if they was always from jump stand alone artist

Or has the comradery made them sharper

The Wu within themselves have had some tough ass competition

Now I think they would have been fine as solo artists, especially the first 4/5...

But no doubt there was huge competition amongst the MCs and they all helped each other get better, and the RZA factor just made everything 10x better too

But I wasn't even looking from that perspective

I'm taking Ghost's solo career over Nas any day of the week, and that's not even factoring in OB4CL or the Wu group albums

The one disadvantage of Wu being a group is that the elite MCs will never get their shine a la Jay or Nas or Biggie etc. That's something we gotta accept
