Lakers laid people off
Alex McKechnie was one of North America's most respected athletic trainers and scientists. NBA players pilgrimaged for years to visit him in Vancouver when they had injuries or needed rehab. For example, he's credited with helping save Shaquille O'Neal's prime years by treating O'Neal's abdominal injuries in the late 1990s. O'Neal was so effusive that the Los Angeles Lakers hired the Scottish native, and he was with them for five titles between 1999 and 2011.

But when the NBA lockout hit in 2011, the Lakers allowed numerous staff members' contracts to expire so they didn't have to pay them during the lockout. The richest team in the league then lost its prized trainer when the Raptors, then led by general manager Bryan Colangelo, swooped in and hired McKechnie after the Lakers left him unemployed.

In 2013, when the Raptors went looking for a GM, then-CEO Tim Leiweke was obsessed with getting Ujiri away from the Nuggets, where he had shown great promise. After getting denied permission to interview him several times, Leiweke finally secured it and offered Ujiri a multimillion-dollar-per-season raise. The Nuggets, controlling costs, declined to match, and he left.

As the Knicks were deciding, their team went on a road trip to Texas in early January 2014. As the team went through the triangle, Shumpert caught fire. He scored 27 points and hit six 3-pointers in a win in San Antonio, and then played great again the next night in Houston, making six more and putting in 26. Over a five-game span, Shumpert averaged 16 points and shot a sizzling 61 percent on 3-pointers.

About 18 months off a torn ACL, there was thought that Shumpert was turning the corner. Numerous teams wanted to trade for him. The Knicks started having second thoughts about moving him for Lowry. With the other concerns, the trade died. Lowry stayed in Toronto, where he became a franchise player, a captain and a cornerstone of this Finals team.

Siakam was seen at the camp by Ujiri, who had been attending for more than a decade, plus other scouts. It created a chain of events that led to Ujiri's selecting Siakam with the 27th pick in the 2016 draft, just four years later.

This obsession with with Finals MVPs is really over the top now thanks to that idiot Skip.

Nobody ever cared about that shyt until recently with :skip: running that shyt into the ground.

No one ever cared about that before

Skip a bytchass cac but breh even back in the early days of Sohh 15 years ago, the Kobe vs Shaq debate revolved around one side arguing Kobe was the sidekick because Shaq was winning the Finals MVPs during the 3peat, while the other side was saying the Finals was a cake walk compared to the WCFs (de facto Finals) in which they argued Kobe did equal share heavy-lifting

Hell, even when DWade won finals mvp in '06 and Shaq took the trophy from the presenter to hand to Wade himself, ppl were clowning Shaq for trying to be all up in the video during Wade's moment of recognition, since originally it was seen as Shaq's team.

It's always been a fairly big deal, even if lowkey; i think ppl like Skip just caught on to it and brought the coli/barbershop type debates and hot takes about it to the mainstream.

:heh:Warriors fans real quiet today. Ya'll walked out the arena on your shyt team before the game even finished. Raptor fans would NEVER do that shyt. Ya'll whole franchise looking funny in the light. Bum ass Bay fans.:umad:

We are the goat fans in the nba

I remember even after 50 loss seasons fans would never leave early and even wait when Antonio Davis or glen grunwald would go to half court and give that this is unacceptable we will be better next year

if you are THAT good, you win finals MVP, period and Kawhi is about to be living proof of this fact....AGAIN. Its a big part of your resume as an athlete tbh and I dont see why you'd overlook teh most important games of the season. Are you trying to perform well or perform AND win games like KD.

regular season dont mean shyt unless you win the championship. its not even to diss curry but not winning it is very telling of how valuable you are in the finals in a team scenario. Andre proved to be a stronger asset in a team scenario because outside of steals, Steph wasnt much of a defender. Steph is a great scorer but KD proved to be better at rim protection and scoring (on all the same areas of the court as steph) at the same time

Performing well in the finals is one thing but to perform well and and guarantee wins? thats a whole other discussion.:hubie:

Draymond looks and sounds like he's accepted defeat.

I am waiting to hear from all the Draymond is a superstar people. He is getting a major pass for not stepping up while the team has needed them. At a certain point you have to stop passing and starting looking to score if you see your other players aren't scoring all that much.

I think when the Raptors went up by 10, this was the 7th straight game GSnW was down by double digits
There’s been signs, it’s just the Blazers/Rockets sucked/choked
The West looking funny in the light
I think not only the Raptors but the Sixers and Bucks would have had similar success against the Warriors
In hindsight, they needed Durant to get past the Clips. They couldn't contain him. :mjcry:
