This was over a year before Abe Polin passed away. He really wanted to keep Arenas and Jamison... he wanted to get one more championship before dying. But the Wizards should have started re-building right there and then that summer with the cap room they had.

But to be fair, no one thought Arenas would be what he was now. Everyone was optimistic he'd still be a lethal scoring option who would get better with age in terms of being more of a PG.

Before gun gate, the Wizards were under .500 and Gilbert was a turnover machine but he was still putting up 22 PPG and 7 Assists per game... and he still could score. But mentally after the injury and the stupid gun incident right after he was finally healthy, it just finished him.

Atleast we got John Wall out of that season.
