I know and respect Black Thought and The Roots but who is Gillie da King? A podcaster? It's kinda shifty and scary to disrespect The Roots. Ever.

Is doing a podcast set at the Roots picnic even a look like that?
How many people even go every year? 10000-20000?
They had way smaller philly podcasts on there like Realest Podcast Ever, so it seems weird not to have Gillie up there for 30 minutes but ultimately who cares

I don’t take him seriously as I don’t follow him, this is probably the first thread I post in ever. I haven’t heard his music or anything he’s produced in any other form. I’ve seen articles, posts and tweets that makes him seem like a world class clown. Disrespecting the roots on social media just reminded me of who he was

Gillie a funny dude...if u listen to his pod cast and follow him on social media, you'd probably like him more

But i agree with the other dudes, i doubt he takes rap serious

his cousin clowns him all the time "u got dropped from cash money for being a disgruntled employee".. "u could never be lil wayne" :russ:

Gil always has the habit of acting like MF was some sort of movement ...and I say this as someone from Philly who was there when they first dropped...
They are WAY bigger Philly legends in their heads then in reality...and I fuk with their stuff.
If they were at the Roots Picnic....no one would know who they are...it's been 20 years since they had their "hit single"

you aint from philly talking like that.

if you are, you definitely wasn't outside.

Ehhh who cares? Does Philly even fukk with the roots like that? They been a successful band for the white TV show for a while. They might as well invite bunch of soccer mom Karen's in that picnic

roots were hot at their peak, but if you came up after the mid-90s, you prolly never rocked with them.

and there were always underground groups like major figgas & others who were bigger in the city.

Nah you can't be from philly gassing them--you're probably from jersey or delaware claiming philly...they weren't serious...ram squad was more known in the city

you weren't around

ram squad had the mid-90s.
figgas was moreso late '90s/early '00s. and they were bigger than ram squad was and definitely way more influential.

youre not even cognizant enough to know about the figgas mixtapes.

and you had a better argument with ram squad.

:mjlol: you have to be from jersey or delaware...otherwise you'd know better or would have a more educated understanding of it

I know when the figgas and ram squad came out lol...the figgas were not "big" except for when they first dropped...and even then it was very brief with the lead off single.

Roots were more mainstream and were bigger with their 2nd Album in the mid90s, Ram Squad had a huge UG following in the mid90s, Figgas had about a 1 year in the late 90s...but they were never the biggest "movement"...Sigel, Free, Eve etc were way bigger

the figgas were huge in philly long before they even had a single.

now youre babbling about mainstream success.

more proof that you were in the house.

you're just wrong, and not even from the city, just a wanna be
I think you're argument just fails on the idea that you equate mixtapes with being big

At no time were they they biggest movement in Philly...mainstream or otherwise. Roots were the biggest at one point, Ram Squad at another and State Prop in another. Try following the bouncing ball next time.

peace
