Lol I feel like I'm on an episode of the twilight zone when I talk to other blacks about social issues. Since when did we become so damn dumb?! Years of cultural and moral decline has really done a number on y'all.

Obviously it's not called twerking, but the dance itself originated from Africans, I know Africans that grew up doing this dance but it wasn't viewed in a sexual way.

Please specify WHICH culture on the continent of Africa from which twerking originated.

She was from the country of Nigeria not sure which culture, black women have big butts and hips you don't think they got bored one day and decided to jiggle it a bit. It's not far fetched.

The most profound statement at this thread.

@GiGi feel free to move to Somalia if you feel that way. They have a strong Muslim culture there, feel free to have a good time :lolbron: You showin' photos about the 20s-60s, what do you think they called black music back then?

Our culture was ALWAYS demonized. From ragtime to jazz to R&B to rock&roll to hiphop. When we did swing dancing, it was voodoo sh*t, when whites did it, it became all the rage during CAC spring breaks. 20 years from now twerking will be the cool thing for white chicks and your Aunt Tomina azz won't be saying sh*t. When blacks do it, bad, when whites do it good. Look around now most of the popular jazz artists are white, and same thing is happening in hiphop with Macklemore and sh*t. And c00ns like you and @TheReckoning are the promoters of such sentiments amongst ourselves. Whites will hate you for whatever for you do.

Also you never answered my question, ain't you in an IR relationship? how would your ancestors feel about your IR relationship with their oppressors?

That's the thing. She's NOT in an IR relationship. It's worse. She longs to be in one. And I'm still not convinced that @GiGi is black but that's another topic altogether. :sas2:

@mariahcooper if you are going to speak on something you should at LEAST have your facts straight.

Origins of Twerking

Mapouka, also known under the name of Macouka, is a traditional dance from the area of Dabou in southeast Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), sometimes carried out during religious ceremonies. It is also known as, "La danse du fessier" or "the danse of the behind"...

There are two forms of the dance, the original and the modern. The modern is danced mostly by young people and is considered more obscene and improper by some due to its suggestive nature.

In 1998, the government of Côte d'Ivoire decided to prohibit its performance in public. It is, paradoxically, following this prohibition that the dance now enjoys a very fast-growing global following, especially in the sub-Saharan countries and western nations with large Francophone communities."
Even the traditional people view the modern version as too sexually suggestive and the government banned its public performance.

The people of Dabou are of African decent. So once again it is a dance started by African people, you just proved me right.

eta: i never said it started in Nigeria I said my friend was Nigerian.
