Ray and Charlie are pretty realistic. Adam and the Doctor with the brownstone is total fiction/fantasy though.

I give you Charlie. I think he's pretty realistic and that relationship does add up mostly (minus dude suddenly being rich and taking his girl back right away without hitting the player mode ever).

Ray kinda just comes off as the typical Jewish archetype to me.

i don't get the shoshana hate. she's 22 and well off in new york and was dating a 33 year old latin studies doctoral homeless dropout. ray is my breh but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade.

True and although she was having second thoughts about the relationship, it was her cheating on dude that was the catalyst for the breakup. Her guilt caused her to finally snap and end it and she denied messing with someone else.

If she dumped him, no fooling around with anyone else, I don't think people would be upset with her. But she messed around with the first dude to say she looked pretty and then shytted on Ray.

Yea these guys are pretty typical. It's similar to the guy in Silver Lining Playbook that was working his ass off just to please the Julia Styles character. Bradley Coopers character was caught up in the same shyt, but there was part of him that knew the big house, wife and kids thing was BS. It took someone as crazy as him (Jlaw) to open his eyes that it's OK to live outside of that fantasy (sold to us as normal).

My interest in the show pretty much died after that episode. I skimmed a few episodes following that one but still.

i'd say that's hannah - we're just not used to seeing this archetype as women. i remember lena dunham characterizing those great jewish comedians as "incredibly confident with zero sense of self worth" spot on. i think that's why they inserted ray's line "I'M GREEK ORTHODOX" a few episodes back

i also think all three guys are realistic with some over the top stuff added for entertainment value tbf

now? adam has been the best since day one. i think they threw the brehs a bone this season and put adam, ray, and charlie into the relative limelight after realizing they couldn't really make this show just about girls, despite its title (which belies their original intentions)

just watched the ep where jessa disappears again, and right before she says she gave her cellphone to a guy in a mexican restaurant. i wonder if hannah remembered that when she left her that message in the finale.
