The moment I can remember was hearing Kanye on a song or freestyle years ago around college dropout time say " I bought earrings like Baby that maybe fake, but at least it got the girls calling me baby cakes."
At that time I was buying that fake shyt to have a little shine so I could relate to what he was saying. Now I can't relate to the wild ish he's been saying lately.

My co-Goats are Pac and Nas. 1.a and 1.b

Neither one of them became my favorite rapper the first time I heard them..

With Pac is when I first heard Me Against The World and was blown away with his brutal honesty and realness..He was a nikka on the verge of insanity and put it out there as some powerful art..

With Nas it was when I read Verbal Intercourse as the "Hip hop quotable" in The Source back in High School.. I hadn't even heard the song yet and I knew the nikka was a rare talent with something to say..

Then I bought IWW and moments after hearing the second verse of I Give You Power, I accepted him as the heir to Rakim...

I have similar stories about Ice Cube, Common and 3000 to round out my top 5.. I never really was hype about any of my all time favorites the first time I heard them..

I didn't really give a fukk about music when I was real young. But when I was like 10-11 I started listening to shyt on MTV and stuff and got into some pop type rap - Ludacris, Nelly (my friend actually really got me into Country Grammer, I listened to that non stop), I vaguely recall seeing Real Slim Shady on MTV but it didn't really grab me or anything. But I also dabbled in a little bit of poppy rock at the time (Linkin Park, Creed - meh, that's about the only rock I have ever got into lol).

I don't recall when I actually got into it (around the release or later), but The Eminem Show got me into Em/rap in general. I recall hearing Without Me non stop on TV, although I was never a huge fan. But I definitely remember seeing the Cleaning Out My Closet video (might have been my first time hearing the song too) and I think that's what really got me hooked.

I was floating through life, without much meaning... then one day, word of a new army was forming:

It's all started on a day back in 1997, when I heard this song during the Spring of that year. Me hearing that glorious voice through the airwaves decided that I must provide the strength ensure that this music was heard around the world. So I decided to join the ranks of the Jiggastan army, and glorious that was. We were riding around in Ferrari's and Jaguars switching four lanes, big pimping spending Gs, money cash and hoes every where. We even set up our own telephone hotline for our fellow brothers in arms to call while they were in need.

But then.... it...... it happened.

I wish.... I can forget. But, it's engraved in my memory.... all of our memories!! :damn:

It started out as a glorious day as our King and Savior was celebrating his 32nd birthday, and us loyal soldiers in the Jiggastan army had just declared victory over his unclean, demonic enemies. But then, it struck....

....and none of us saw it coming.

Our army was almost massacred that day, luckily myself and a few others made it out in time. By the time the attack ended, we lost the Empire of New York... and many soldiers, including myself started following the new King.

But I'll never forget that day..... December 4th, 2001 , the day that changed my life.

I'm 10, Video Music Box is on, Uncle Ralph comes "...and here's the new one from Nas "It Ain't Hard To Tell. I hear this beat that I know is a Michael Jackson song. This half-man/half-amazing starts spitting words automatically that I never knew possible:wow::mindblown::ohlawd:

...and my older brother has a similar red Nautica jacket like his under the boardwalk on that 90s phone:ahh::blessed::salute:

The Wrong Side of the Tracks
Was at a Junior High School dance and 'Brooklyn Rocks the Best' by Cutmaster DC had just got done playing. I was kinda sweaty and some song came on that I didn't like and the dance was almost over so I went outside the gym to chill. My cousin came driving up in his Maxima about 10 minutes later to pick me and my 2 friends up. We get in and start heading down to McDonald's to get something to eat and Mr. Magic comes on with a 'WORLD.......PREMIERE.......A WORLD........PREMIERE.........'

We just looked at each other like........:ohhh::dwillhuh::mindblown: :whew:

When the song was done, we were ALL....:ooh:.... HE RIPPED DAT SHYT!!!!

It aint hard to tell was one of my favorite songs...Nas was always cool rapper to me, but I was too young to understand him. Meth, Rockness Monsta were way more appealing to little kids, those dudes were like rapping super heroes. And then Nas went all jiggy on us and I dismissed him till I heard the eye for an eye freestyle....that shyt was wild. ...and then I heard ' let my nikkas live ' ....*wooo*

I brother had borrowed an album from a friend. He was impressed and told me to check it out. So, I'm listening to the intro which got me in the right mood for the crack I was about to hear. First song comes on, and I'm like :whoo: hearing Nas rapping over the Sting sample.

Funny thing I was also really impressed about hearing the line "I never sleep cuz sleep is the cousin of death" sample on the song. and thinking to myself that line is dope I wonder who they sampled. The I find out it's Nas too :damn:

I remember growing up in the 90s watching all the music videos from the Hip Hop legends, just amazed what Hip Hop is. Then I remember in 2002 when I was 12, and this song came on

As a kid, I was like :gladbron:
Such an awesome video. Especially that 3rd verse. The science he was dropping. To show black people came from greatness, our history didn't start from slavery. We were kings, Pharaohs, Sultans, Chiefs. Since we are great, we should act like we're great
Video was also great cause at the time, I was around the same age as the kids in the video, so it was like it was directed at me. And inspiration to succeed. Before then I didn't know Hip Hop can influence the minds like that, beyond a simple head nod from a nice beat. That's when I truly fell in love with Hip Hop. Nas taught me a black man without his HISTORY is going nowhere

That's my GOAT :to:

This may go over a nikka head. 92/93, Atlanta hosted the Jack The Rapper convention. Me and my partna standing outside the hotel. Luke had bytches stripping just to get in the hotel. Me and my homie smoking and dude walks by. He like yall nikkaz smoking? Gave em the nod, he pulls out weed and blunts talking about lwts smoke. Choped it up and hes been my favorite ever since. Chilled wit me and the homie for about 45 minutes. It was Pac. I think 2pacoplyse had just come out. Dude was all the way down to earth. Also saw the death row/Uncle Luke fight. JT Money was no joke. Thats fir another thread tho.
