Nah..I don't buy that.

When the Texans offered Brock that contract the Broncos let him walk and replaced him with a young QB that's arguably better that they can bring up in thier system and not pay him half the cap space.

If teams actually drafted and developed better they wouldn't be throwing ridiculous money at these unproven mediocre QB's.

No way in HELL was John Elway gonna match that crazy deal. And that was the right move.
The pressure was also off in Denver after winning a Super Bowl (and that same team was about to hand the starting job to Fez before Siemian outplayed him)

In order to develop QB's the QB has to be good enough, because in the case of Goff and Hackenberg, those teams are trying to develop them and they're getting killed because they're not playing.

From September 2 :mjpls::

HOUSTON -- Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has been so impressed with Brock Osweiler that he gave him a high compliment: The quarterback, said O'Brien, understands the Texans offense like a coach.

The Texans offense under O’Brien and offensive coordinator George Godsey is complex, and it has taken a lot of hard work for Osweiler to get to this point. During the offseason, he spent long hours in the film room and learning his playbook.

"He's come in here and done exactly what we've asked him to do," O'Brien said. "He's worked extremely hard. I'm telling you now, this guy has put in 12-hour days. He's spent a lot of time. In order to understand our offense basically like a coach does, you have to put in a lot of time. He has certainly done that.

"He's got a good command of our offense and how to call a play, how to change a play at the line of scrimmage, how to communicate with his teammates."

HOUSTON -- For the first time in head coach Bill O'Brien's stint in Houston, he will have consistency at the quarterback position.

Last season, the Houston Texans started four quarterbacks -- Brian Hoyer (nine starts), Ryan Mallett (four), T.J. Yates (two) and Brandon Weeden (one) -- during the regular season. Hoyer started the only playoff game for the Texans, throwing four interceptions in a 30-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now with starter Brock Osweiler and backups Tom Savage and Weeden, the Texans have a dependable group of players in their quarterback room.

Dependable? Weeden couldn't win in Dallas and what do we know about Savage? :mjpls:

October 16 :mjpls::

Texans coach Bill O'Brien and starting quarterback Brock Osweiler had a heated exchange after a quarterbacks meeting this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, with pressure mounting on that offense to make strides. Osweiler has struggled early on after signing a new contract worth nearly $40 million guaranteed this offseason, and his play Sunday at Minnesota was particularly troubling.

According to the source, Osweiler objected to some play-calling decisions during a routine meeting reviewing the Week 5 loss -- O'Brien took over play-calling duties a few weeks into the season -- and he and the head coach subsequently had a loud charged interaction after that meeting that did not go unnoticed by others.

October 25 :mjpls::

Osweiler averaged less than 3.2 yards per attempt, which is the lowest for an NFL quarterback in a game this season, according to research by ESPN Stats & Information. Entering the game, the lowest average in a game was 3.7 by Rams quarterback Case Keenum in Week 1.

He was inaccurate throughout the game, especially on deep passes. Osweiler was 0-for-6 on throws more than 15 yards downfield.

:mjlol: The league is :trash: thanks in part to tall, intelligent, hardworking, white QB's who can't make plays.

72 mil? It's a two year deal. His dead cap hit is 6 mil in 2018, when he'd be cut if he doesn't start playing much better.
