My mom gave me an American name while giving my sister a Jewish name for opportunity reasons.

Name your child what you want but don't be an idiot about it. All of that Shaquandarius and Tatatalicious sh1t is wack. On the other hand, I have noticed a trend of hood chicks giving their kids VERY white sounding names like Katie for girls and Hunter for boys.
Jewish Name? Mazel Tov?

Btw... You still have to talk on the phone and you still have to go in for an interview... I don't care how much a black man removes the bass out of his voice and over enunciates his words, I can still tell he is black over the phone.

I think that you should name your 1st child and possibly subsequent children whatever name(s) you want..
But, perhaps whatever name you do decide to choose for your child(ren), that said name(s) have meaning. If you elect to make up an unique name, then give it a meaning.
If you choose a name that is already out, then choose a name that you think reflects the child, you, the other parent and perhaps your lineage, culture, etc.
Lastly, if you are going to name your child a name that is considered "Black", then I hope that you will prepare your child to work for him or herself!
That way, they don't have to worry about their resumes being tossed in the trash by some SWS.
In all, there are name books our there, especially African names or names from all over the world. Of course, you have Biblical name books or books that have traditional white names.

Its unfair you give your kid a better shot with a “regular” sounding name. I personally don’t like most black sounding names anyway

Find a name you like and and are comfortable with and name your child. Dont worry about what everyone thinks wether it's his future employers or his black 'friends' who wants him to keep it real. Just dont fukk it up something crazy like WaterMellondria or whatever the name was and have him teased to death and committing suicide by the 9th grade.
I personally would love to name my child an african name but it really isnt that serious. WHen i was younger i used to always say i'd name my son "Didier"...until my cousin stole my idea and named his first son Didier.
Heck, many African name their child eurocentric names like "James" and "Didier". In their defense at least they at least have their last name to fall back on. I remember growing up I used to hear a lot of those haitian names or "haitian-made" names in Haiti kinda like the "black names" black americans have. Some of them were rather country-ish thus why city folks used to make fun of them as kids. Then when i moved here I's see black american kids with "black names" themselves make fun of Jamaican kids name. 
Hell i'm sure many people in Jamaica probably made fun of Shabba Ranks name growing up and are now asking for his autograph

Give them a foreign sounding nondescript name like Sebastian (Shaw), Robert (DaCosta), Luke (Cage), Monica (Rambeau)
I won't but if I do have kids I'm keeping Haitian style names or I'm going with the not so out there fantasy names I've created for my stories.
