I remember this girl I knew calling Solange & Beyonce "ghetto" names. Till she met a French foreign exchange student with the name Solange then it was "oh i didn't like it cause I didn't know the real pronunciation" :stopitslime:

Black people need to name their kids wtf they want and teach them economic independence.

the comments then get into how certain names wont get your kid a job, vs being a c00n for trying to make your kid blend in

Topic was interesting to me because im about to have my 1st child

What say the coli :patrice:

Your child, your choice.

You lost if you let public opinion win though. Besides, it doesn't matter what the child's name is. Long as he or she is black in appearance, kid's already behind the 8-ball in society's eyes.

Lowkey the other day I was scrolling through my text inbox and noticed something funny. Damn near every one of my closest friends/ most contacted acquaintances have rare or unique names. :yeshrug:

Meanwhile I have a common ass name :unimpressed:

Personally I decided a while back if I ever have children they're getting uncommon names.

Well black folks are at the bottom when it comes to being CEOs and business owners.

Can you blame them?

Not every black person is trying to struggle with life to be some “Warrior”.

The same way not every black person is trying to be warrior and putting up with having to live in the hood.
Don't raise your kid to work to for the white man :manny: and if Barack Hussein Obama can become President with his name there's no excuses.

I mean it's a big debate in the African community on whether we should be giving kids traditional first names or English first names.

An Igbo name keeps the culture alive, but the English name may open more doors realistically.

My view on it is a moral victory vs a quantifiable victory.

THIS!!!! The ****travious' and ****quan's annoy me. My cousin has 8 kids and all except one (named after his father) has tae in it. After the first 4 I can't tell you who the others are and I don't even try to figure it out

I’ve seen parents put a regular name as a first name ON PAPER but their middle name is unique and the actual name they go by

We gotta do better with nepotism before I do those name combination things
Don't name em no shyt like Dontrarious/quarious or Fruqwan or none a that shyt...

Thear names or naming conventions have meanings

It's a lot harder to pronounce Shadaqarious than it is Justin. You do put your kids at a disadvantage when you give them crazy ass names.
