Snoop was never has popular as 2pac, there was a reason Suge Knight got him out of jail so he could sign with Death Row, Pac was a movie star also, and his persona was larger than life. Snoop was just a rapper, white people like his music, so he had big commercial records, but it didn't have star aura about him.

He didn't become the Snoop Dog house hold name until after Death Row when he changed his image from a street killer to a weed smoking laid back cool uncle image

stop with this revisionist history, Snoop Dog was never as big as DMX was at his peak, stop it with this shyt, DMX sold more records than Pac even after Death that's how big he was

2pac has Dear Mama, Brenda’s Got a Baby, Keep ya Head Up...etc. He was a movie star & he was at odds with politicians. He had the controversial shooting, trial, and was the first major rapper to be incarcerated in their prime. I lived in that era where you could listen to dear mama with your mama. My mama also bought me the soggy style cassette when it came out but I’m sure she ain’t know what snoop was saying on the tape. I had the Vibe magazine when pac came to death row, I watched the mtv special shooting California love. nikkas sleeping on PAC heavy in this thread, smh

a lot of yall in here arguing against the wrong points and obviously didnt watch the video or didnt comprehend it. yall keep saying Pac was bigger in 96. go back and listen to the clip. Glasses said that at no point was Pac bigger than Snoop in 93, 94, or 95. (you can obviously throw in 92). Charlemagne said Pac was bigger once Pac got to Death Row. He cited AEOM and Glasses said "because of Snoop". even Envy said Snoop was the biggest rap star of all time. Glasses said Pac wasnt as big as B.I.G...but thats all you nikkas hear....not catching the rest of the context....BEFORE AOEM.

Pac first single was California Love and that came out at the end of 95 right? that was his first Death Row single right? that was his most successful single right?

so if anything, the only argument here should be who was bigger in 95? because that is the only year that Glasses said Snoop was bigger that would even be debatable. before that was Snoop, after that was Pac. He didnt say Snoop was bigger than Pac in 96 and said that for the 9 months (and posthumously) Pac was bigger.

All facts

Women loved Tupac not Snoop, Snoop had huge records and success like every other gangsta rapper before him, he was just a kid, Pac was way more popular which is why HE INSTANTLY TOOK OVER DEATH ROW WHEN HE CAME THERE

If snoop was more popular 2pac would've been second fiddle to Snoop, which he wasn't clearly

Snoop fell all the way off after death row collapsed, he had to create a new image and reinvent himself, that's the Snoop everyone knows today and is an house hold name, meaning he's not even known as a rapper he's just known as Snoop Dogg the celebrity, its different level of fame

on Death Row he was just a rapper, became Snoop Dogg the celebrity later on, where his brand had nothing to do with rap just him.
Only rappers who out sold 2pac are DMX and Eminem, so Snoop was nowhere was popular as DMX and Eminem, who only surpassed Tupac because he was dead

That Dre/Snoop 92-93 run changed pop music breh.
After that shyt, there was a million lil Snoop clones, and everybody wanted that G-Funk sound
They were getting rotation on MTV/ the Box, and not just on Yo!

Pac was in movies, no doubt, but lets not act like Poetic Justice and Juice were blockbuster smashes like The Bodyguard and shyt... they were big for "us".
Pac first two albums took yearsssss just to go Gold.
Me Against the World came out after his incarceration, and he was getting a lot of media coverage, which helped his sales.

Skill wise, songwriting, overall impact, thats a whole nother story. But there was no doubt Snoop was bigger in those years, which G Malone described. And it helped that Snoop had the best hip hop producer in the world by his side in those years.

Once again, they said while they were alive, its more than fame than record sells, Snoop had hit records because of Dre,

Snoop Dog album first came out in 93, Tupac first album is 91, by Snoop Second album in 1996 Tupac already surpassed him

Stop with this revisionist history

Tupac came to Death Row Snoop was on the back burner, if he was a bigger star that wouldn't be the case, you make zero sense and sound fukking stupid

only rapper close to Tupac's popular was DMX, who was the biggest rapper ever until Eminem

Let's not lose sight of the main issue here...why Glasses Malone keepin Pac name in his damn mouth all the time lately? :stopitslime:

because he said, he is a good story teller who has never gotten recognized for his rap skills and this is the very first time he is getting the recognition he deserves. he also said his boy told him how shyt went down so he felt as if he could speak on it and be somewhat factual. he admitted he didnt know how to make hit songs early in his career. he is trying to advance his career. some are going to like it, some are not. to me the only thing I dont agree with is the shock value title and IG caption...but again, thats what he had to do to get maximum exposure.

Huh how?

The Chronic is Snoop and the Dogg Pound lol...

The chronic sounds nothing like those NWA albums..

The Chronic created a lot of the momentum for Doggystyle..

That’s all we needed back then.. anyway people are missing the fact that Dr. Dre was the key to all this shyt. I mean he only came from one of the biggest rap groups of all time and walked right into Death Row.. that shyt helped Snoop big time because they both had unique styles, Dre with the beats and Snoop with the voice. I’m from the South and I can tell you that Pac was good down here when I get around came out, and definitely when keep your head up came out. I don’t even have to talk About what was going on by the time MATW came out. Kids around the way getting the Bishop haircut and fools rocking the blade under their tongue like Birdie(edit: this was during Death Row but still lol) Man of course Pac was going to be even bigger after having a plat album while in jail only to end up getting out and teaming up with Dr. fukking Dre lol. C’mon man.
