That real live anger and frustration of Bowser's flying ship
The mechanics of the game were, and probably still are, the best control of ANY game, period.
Nintendo smashed that out of the park with that one
You have to remember that it was released in 1988-89, crazy when you think about it.
And, Super Mario Kart on the SNES is the greatest game in that category too. I remember my friend bought it when it first came out. We played Battle mode for like 6 hours straight and didnt even realise it

ill take super Mario 64, its the only one I have a connection with. I played all the older ones as a kid but they don't resonate with me like M64 does

I gotta say the levels where you didn't have the jetpack were the best part of the game.
OG...spent many hours (as long as the 4AA batteries would last me) playing this
