Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis perform a lot of understandable "coddling" when it comes to Janet's vocal skills.

Take someone with the same level of voice instrumentation, change her name to "Chandra Hawkins" and she wouldn't make it past a first-round audition for The Voice, American Idol or America's Got Talent.

Janet is not Deniece Williams, Stephanie Mills, Patrice Rushen or Minnie Riperton -- all who sung near the same octave range as her, but could go beyond due to talent.

I've always thought that Rebbie had a better natural voice than Janet, but in 1986, she wasn't the 20-year old youngest sister of the biggest music star in the galaxy, releasing an album that was written and produced by one of the greatest composing/producing teams of all time.
