Been thinking about it...

I wouldn't mind. The TEFL nikkas still email me about it.

It would be a cool experience I think. Especially in Latin America :wow:

I could get my certs while I'm there too

If you get certian certs you can hit up Freelance.com and parlay you skills to American companies looking to outsource. I outsource my SEO and Google Keywords to companies in India. They do the same job as any American company but at 1/3 the price.

It's a nice option to have, getting the proper certification can open doors abroad and also allow you to teach locally. Some people I did my class with went abroad and really enjoyed the experience. You need to do your research obviously as some placements may not be as credible. I know people who went over and got their room and board covered by the school and then got a 30k to 40k salary on top.

I haven't went abroad yet but I think I will eventually. I completed a recognized program at a college here a couple years ago and then got registered with the provincial body. I can basically teach here in Toronto in colleges, universities, government funded programs/community services, private schools, etc. Average rate in the post-secondary's and community programs is about $40 / hr the private schools depends can be anywhere from $15-25/hr.

I never asked, but I assumed Indonesia is his favorite, he's been there for about 4 years now, he comes home for a week or two every 6 months then he's back there immediately. I have asked him if he ever sees himself coming back to live in the US and while he doesn't say no, I think that's his home now.

He's 33, and realistically he could retire right now if he wanted to as long as he stayed there, my dude is a master scuba diver now, that's how much free time he had on his hands. You wont make a lot of money unless you do what he did, but if you do you're straight, he's thinking of starting his own diving school for tourists.

Good shyt - props for the info :salute:

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
always assumed they were making peanuts :yeshrug:

if you're not corporate or you're fresh out of college, it could be a good experience

Peanuts compared to someone in the US, sure, but if you're making $1300 a month teaching English in Colombia you're making $4000 more than the national average, and you can find fully furnished apartments there with balconies and ocean views for like $500 a month.

plus think about it. You get a housing allowance for 4-5 k. you paying 500 a month for an apartment . you got mad money left over to play with.

This is what I REALLY want to start doing within the next year or so. Thing is, I only have an associate's, and I still have to take the certification somewhere. I've read that some places will hire you with just the certification, but I never see anything posted on ESL job boards not requiring a degree.

It would be nice if they actually would hire you without the degree, so you could at least work on it while in whatever country. But, for now it's looking like I'll have to finish up here....
