I'm in that mental space right now only because I'm a newbie. I know I'm not getting the most out of my workouts due to a few reasons:
1)My form for various exercises, both free-weight & machine, isn't good.
2)I'm nervous about using the assisted pull-up/dip machine as a big dude(poor reason, I know)
3)I don't want to lift without a spotter(basically because of my sketchy form).
Once I fix and overcome these things I won't beg anyone to come work out with me. Too many flakers. If I always waited on someone, I'd never get my workouts in.
If you have bad form for free weights just start back over and use only the bar. Work up slowly making sure your form is right. YouTube videos of proper form and a session or two with a trainer can also really help.

" have never had a gym partner like the one OP was talking about.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. Of course we're not talking about a person that is new/inexperienced that will slow you down, we're talking about an equal or stronger person that will give you that extra push.
