penfield i used to live in the south, so here are some pointers
1) keep a list of personal problems to tell people you meet. southerners love other folks' business. be prepared to listen to their problems too.
2) don't ever tell someone from eastern nc that western nc bbq is better or vice versa. this extends across the region, i.e. memphis vs. texas
3) bring candy in bulk, like m&ms, skittles, now & laters, etc to sell. we have this in huge amounts in the non-south, but people in the south are often scared away by bright colors and plastic wrappers unless its part of their bootleg jordans. they usually just eat sugar by the spoonful for breakfast, so providing them with these gives them a chance to get their morning sugar intake in a conveniently packaged square. this way they can eat their meal and won't have to drive so slow like they usually do.
