:wow: You know a game is on some GOAT shyt, when the thread is in the Locker Room and not in Arcadium :mjlol:

But on the real, I never understood the hype for Goldeneye:

  • I played better games during the time (Perfect Dark)
  • The controls were dogshyt
  • The graphics even around the time did not move me
  • The multiplayer portion was meh
I just could not get jiggy with the game as a young joey. Now the wrestling games :whew:
:ohlawd:

You would have needed to have played it when it came out. Perfect Dark did not come out until years later. At the time. There was nothing like it on consoles. The closest was Doom and that was not objective based. No other console shooter game required gamers to "think" rather than shoot everything in sight. Also, the graphics were revolutionary at the time and there were no other split screen 4 player deathmatch games at the time that could match what Rare did. That's just like listening to Jimi Hendrix for the first time in 2022 and saying his music didn't change the world. You would have had to listen to Jimi when he was hot and also listen to what else was available in the same era.

Granted its your personal opinion, but cant cosign bullet points 2-4. Four player multiplayer for a shooter was unprecedented at the time. Controls were trash compared to modern day, but we didnt know any better. Same can be said with graphics, we werent far removed 2d sprites and 3d models were fairly novel at the time.

I remember in high school our teacher brought in an N64 with the game, we just had to bring the controllers, because he said he didnt have enough adult friends who wanted to play it with him. This dude would make up reasons for us to have a class party so he could break out the N64 and play Goldeneye with us. :heh:

That, Mario Kart, and the WWF games were the ultimate multiplayer games in the late 90s.
