Its an end around to illegal, outright racial discrimination against a black applicant -- now you can just use his or her credit score, of which black people's are disproportionately lower in average, to justify non-hiring.

Its far too intrusive, and the relevancy to job performance is completely invalid. I predict the practice will be outlawed in the near future.

Yup and folks will defend it simply cuz they have good credit, smh

My credit score is 820 but I used to work at DFAS and they fired employees who have been with them for 10+ years. One guy was there 17 years.

Workers Who Help Process Obama's Paycheck Face Termination - ABC News

It makes sense to check people's credit at DFAS. They have access to information relating to every single service member as well as government employees. Say for example there was someone who worked there and had trouble making ends meet. Dude had tons of bills and was behind on everything. A thief comes along and offers that person $100,000 for the SSN and bank account information for only 10 Marines. Some people would do it and others would not. The point is that companies believe that you are more likely to take this offer if you have bad credit.

Another reason is because companies don't want to have to interrupt the workflow because you received a call from a collection agency at work. I don't know how many times I have answered the phone at my job and it's a collection agency looking for somebody.

My granddad's credit score is super shytty. Dude had mad bills tryin to support 6 kids and pay all his bills and get a company off the ground. I'm pretty sure he's paid all of his cards off but he still jokes about how bad it is till this day. I'm pretty sure its down in the 400-500 range.

Good thing he's worth 8 figures. :heh:

What kind of qualified person gets laid off from a job with good reviews, but can't find another job ANYWHERE? :mjpls:

Like I said, there are exceptions (medical expenses), but I think most people's problem with credit is a lack of good choices in spending.

Nope. I've always had jobs and my own income since I was 15. I actually turn down money from my parents.

A standard 10 year Service rep at a company like AT&T makes about 35-40k, learning the skills in that field don't really help you in the general job market. That's the downside to a specialized white collar work force. The skills usually aren't transferable.

Not to mention, you lose a job because of cuts the compition has been doing the same thing. So the jobs at the companies that WOULD have hired you have no jobs to place you in.

Lastly, the biggest issue is that qualified people can find jobs but its a matter of finding one that will allow you to maintain your bills. You can't expect someone to go from 40k down to 21k and expect them to maintain their current bills....

The shyt is simple economics. And most people financial hardships in the past few years are created from forces outside of themselves. This isn't the 90's anymore, getting up and walking down the street and finding a job...that time in America is done.

Another thing that's funny is that Michael Jackson had a credit score in the 500's. Even then, I'm sure he could have gotten hired anywhere that he wanted lol.

Most entrepreneurs, successful or not, have some pretty shytty credit scores. Risks have to be taken.

Its another way for the baby boomers to desperately hold on to their positions in the job market. They hate the fact that their time is coming to an end and the next generations are gonna flip the bytch upside down.

This is true. They usually have the capital and networking to where it's not that big of a deal as well.

Some of the more well off clients I've worked w/ have mediocre scores.

I'm not against the notion of credit checks and job, especially with certain field, I think everyone should try their best to maintain credit as much as possible.

Goatganda the pearl of Africa
It's bs

For example I have great credit but I'm in debt with a car loan and a few school loans at aroun 14k

So someone who has bad credit because of say a 1,000 dollar cc they didn't pay os less trustworthy than me?

He'll Id be more likely to accept a Bribe or steak with the money I owe

My two cents
