It sounds disgusting.... :mjcry: :scust: I always wanted to go to the old yankees stadium. Now that we got the new citi field over here I'm like it's not even worth it any more for these bums either...

Citi Filed>>Yankee Stadium(homerism aside)
CF has more space on walkways; CF plays music constantly(not just for batter walk ups).
Bleachers is the only thing good about Yankee Stadium.

Sellout crowd just means tickets are sold, not attended. You know how many companies in NY area has tons of tickets that no one goes too?

and that is exactly why people say "baseball is dying". not from a financial standpoint because all of the big corporations will continue to use their disposable income (that is tax deductible) to buy out blocks of tickets that will keep the gate revenue looking good, but actual fan interest continues to decline. just look at the World Series television ratings over the last decade compared to the 80's, 90's, and early 00's.

in the 80's MLB consistently averaged over 30 million viewers during the World Series and never less than 22 million. in the 90's they consistently averaged between 25-30 million and never less than 21 million (they even hit 30 million the first year AFTER the 1994 strike). since the year 2000 they have only hit 20 million viewers three times and over the last five years they have averaged between 12-16 million.

Most Viewed World Series
  1. 1986 — 36.4m
  2. 1991 — 35.7m
  3. 1987 — 35.3m
  4. 1985 — 34.5m
  5. 1988 — 34.5m
Least Viewed World Series
  1. 2012 — 12.7m
  2. 2008 — 13.6m
  3. 2014 — 13.8m
  4. 2010 — 14.3m
  5. 2013 — 14.9m

I agree with that, baseball since the juiced ball era has sucked to watch. Baseball is the only sport I cant watch, I have never been to game (been to 20+ nba/nfl, 100+ nhl games, 0 baseball) I just wait for sportscenter. It may be america's past time but not for me...

On top of the Monument Park netting and shyt :mjlol:

Tons of ppl watch the game from center though...its the standing section and beer/food is easily accessible. If you have a big group its easier than going to your seats if you just want to bullshyt.

You don"t think a large portion of this has to do with a much larger programming spectrum that exists today. Your talking about a time when the majority of households had yet to have cable tv. You compare the top rated tv show on network tv today and compare it to something like the ratings that show like "MASH', "The Cosby Show", "Seinfeld" its not even close. Reason being, there's wayyyyyyyy more programming options then there used to be. The only thing that has increasing ratings is the NFL which is a once a week live interactive experience with a heavy gambling culture within its fans. Baseball's World Series ratings could possibly be bit higher if it branded itself more but it won't ever get average a thirty rating again because of the bulk of programming options.

Look at the bottom of this list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_watched_television_broadcasts_in_the_United_States. It shows that the majority of the lowest rated #1 shows on the list were all within the last ten years because its difficult to get people to rally around one programming option on a given night. If you watch the world series games ratings on most nights it usually wins the night The only thing that knocks it off are NFL games
