Thats insane!

If they actual put time and effort in this could kill college for many and place them within google in a short time, assuming they hire those they educate.

a lot of my peers have landed their dream job at google in advertising/marketing/design.

students would bypass that shyt if it put them in the same place but earlier

ok but how many companies will take this as a replacement for a degree?

a lot of the point of hiring college graduates for companies is that they know that you were dedicated to finishing up school and they think you'll be a good worker bee.
Getting a certificate shows some levels of dedication. Also having a work history can complete that puzzle a bit too.
Guarantee you no google executive will allow their kids to replace a college degree with this.
Any Google execs kid isn't going to be your average $50k-$100k wage worker either. Obviously if you want to shoot to the top of management positions and things like that you might still need a degree. But wouldn't it be much better that you can work on that degree while making $60k+ a year. You don't have to go into massive debt for it, you're building a work history while doing the degree and savings.

Think of it this way. Imagine an employer hiring someone for a job that has a general degree but doesn't have the specific experience, knowing they are going to have to shell out 50k to train someone that might leave, over someone who invested their own money for a Cert that costs the employer next to nothing to train and can start making money for the company on day 1?

i understand the logic behind it

i'm just saying just because google is offering this doesn't mean all companies are going to follow suit by valuing them the same.

True. I'm speaking in general of certificates and Licenses being asked more from companies than ever before

I've even seen plenty of Engineering positions that now say having a degree is optional. They rather have someone with PCB, CAD, or RFID design software experience

More experience than anything

The problem in IT is that people get certs but then have no idea what the fukk they are doing once they get on the job
