Google is a pioneer in this space and I’m pretty sure they’ve got some pretty advanced stuff behind closed doors, but as with companies this large, it’s not easy to react due to all the corporate red tape and bureaucracy. However, they may have gotten a bit too cautious/lazy/reactive as they didn’t account for how well ChatGPT would be received by the masses, the cash infusion and the speed at which Microsoft is moving incorporating the tech into its products etc.. all of this has shareholders asking them uncomfortable questions, so they’re now forced to react.

With openai, there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. With google, it’s the opposite. Their moves have to be a bit more calculated because it opens them up to a lot more scrutiny. Either way, more competition is good.

The more concerning issue is whether or not legislation will keep up with the advancements in the space as the race heats up. Scientists/Engineers are always gonna take the “Can we” approach vs the “Should we”.

Should make for a fascinating decade though.

Google actually invented the tech underlying ChatGPT (transformer models), published their research, and let others take advantage of it. It reminds me of how Xerox invented the GUI interface for operating systems, but just considered it a toy, and let Apple (and later Microsoft) capitalize on it.

Google was worried about releasing a faulty AI to the world since it could ruin its reputation. The video speaks on it.

don’t wanna go into too many specifics but ya.

This AI has allowed me to use my own ideas and work and draw off them in ways i didn’t think imaginable. projects that would’ve taken me weeks or months can now be done within two weeks with how i structure shyt off that.

That AI is literally life changing for me and my work no hyperbole at all.
