Google actually invented the tech underlying ChatGPT (transformer models), published their research, and let others take advantage of it. It reminds me of how Xerox invented the GUI interface for operating systems, but just considered it a toy, and let Apple (and later Microsoft) capitalize on it.

In a different field of tech, this is what happened to Eastman Kodak, they invented the digital camera, sat on the patent and let Fujifilm, Nikon and Canon crush the buildings with their own digital camera offerings.

Told my cousin about it to assist him with writing essays for college. Told this fool not to tell nobody about it and utilize it before it gets mad mainstream. Fool went ahead and told his classmates who will eventually tell someone else and so forth.
