Google's not earned the privilege to ask $999+, $799+ or $599+ for their laptops, phones or tablets.

What is this hoe babble?

Android phones have served me well since the nexus line and now I just buy the cheap alternatives and they still work well here and in international locations. Join the rest of the world because these non working phones dominate the planet...

I don't know why consumers wanna claim gang anyway... Droid phone, Apple laptop. I go where the best deal and tech is not repping some stupid side in a tech battle. Googles integration and echo system is trash... Googles computers and laptops are failing because they are fracturing their product line. They have chrome os, android etc. The average consumer does not want to get mind boggled with all these details. Is this a computer? Is it compatible with other computers? Can I run my word processor? Why does it need a different OS?

FIX Those basic fails if you are google.

As far as ME the CONSUMER. I'll buy whatever works well for my needs. I have no investments or interests in either party besides seeing a love for healthy competition in the industry.

Apple users always talk about the messaging system trash but most people I know droid or apple are using whatsapp anyway to message each other. I rarely get actual text messages.

In short you have way too much emotional investment in this tech battle. Just buy smart n cut the bullshyt. Never had galaxy diabetes and other such trash you claim it's just fanboi talk. Put the pom poms down
The anger :picard:

It isn't for those who purchased a 2016 flagship and not getting the next Android os rollout :picard:

People often say this but what meaningful features are in the next update? Outside of Google finally opening up Bluetooth audio codecs in Oreo I can't name a feature it gave me that I actually use. We're no longer at the level where OS updates have game changing features. You still get security updates anyway.

Stop giving them a pass :hhh:

It's something they worked on worthy of a proper release and phones 2 years old can't get them because Google hasn't figured out what they NEED to do.

2 year old phones can't get them because Android's business model is to have everyone make phones.

Apple keeps it's older phones up to date because it really doesn't matter if you buy a new phone if you get apps on their app store they take like a 30% cut of the initial sale and 15% on subscriptions. Apple gets that on all their phones.

Google gets that on all their phones but the problem is Google doesn't make most Android phone some other company that doesn't get any cut of the app sales does and they make money selling phones. Why should they update some 2 year old phone when they make nothing off you on it after you bought the phone? They'd rather just sell you a new phone with those updates on it.

Businesses aren't interested in doing things that cost them money and don't have any advantages for them.

Breh, no.

It is inexcusable for any computing device to be unable to get core os updates only 2 years out. The fact that Google and their shytty Android One program is capped at two years is proof that these cats are straight up not in a position to demand these absurd prices with such a fragmented mess on multiple levels across their services.

So basically you want Google to be Apple. Bring everything in-house and only allow their OS on their hardware so they can control it all. That's the only way old phones will get updates. If the company releasing the update doesn't benefit from it then why should they bother? Apple can still make money off a person with an iPhone 5s. Samsung doesn't make money off somebody with a Galaxy S6 anymore.

Also to tell you the truth since Material Design was introduced in 2015 the versions of Android have largely looked the same and barely do anything different. There's little things that get added but for the most part all these Android versions are functionally the same. iOS is even worse unless you count the gesture controls on the last 2 iPhones at best they're ironing out some bugs but iOS has mostly been the same for years.

Android ends up baking in features that Android OEMs already have in their custom builds into stock Android when new versions hit. Not getting the new version of Android really doesn't matter in many respects as long as you get security updates.
