Google's not earned the privilege to ask $999+, $799+ or $599+ for their laptops, phones or tablets.

End of review from Android Authority

At the highest end, you could potentially spend close to two thousand dollars for the Pixel Slate and all of its accessories. For that kind of money, buying a proper Windows laptop or MacBook makes much more sense. Unless you highly value the convenience of having a detachable keyboard, ultra portability, and a true tablet experience when you want it, the Pixel Slate isn’t worth the premium.

Breh, no.

It is inexcusable for any computing device to be unable to get core os updates only 2 years out. The fact that Google and their shytty Android One program is capped at two years is proof that these cats are straight up not in a position to demand these absurd prices with such a fragmented mess on multiple levels across their services.

Just want to chime in on a few things.

  1. Android One phones don't demand 'absurd prices'. They are purposefully cheap for developing countries so the idea that they are expensive is incorrect. They are priced like burner phones but have coverage for at least 2 years.
  2. Two Years of updates is the bare minimum as of right now. As a Chromebook owner, they started out with 4 years of guaranteed updates. Then they changed that to 5 years of guaranteed updates but now they actually offer 6.5 years of guaranteed updates.
  3. Project Treble is Google's answer to manufacturers and carriers not giving a damn about updates. It makes the experience more like Apple and will extend updates across a larger portion of devices than ever before.

I bought the HP X2 Chromebook and it has a better keyboard and costs less than the stock Pixel Slate option smh.
