Why would you want to be spoon fed a messaging solution. There's tons of messaging apps, telegram and signal are great. They support end to end encryption. Updates are problematic and I'm not talking about long term support. Updates can mess up your workflow by introducing new bugs and companies nowadays are blocking the ability to downgrade firmware. I want to be able to rollback updates like Microsoft Windows. Apple doesn't let you downgrade anytime you want either.

I disagree that lack of long term manufacturers updates and out of the box messaging makes an OS terrible.

My first and only concern with getting a new phone , "is it rootable?".
A rootable phone is most likely to have an unlocked bootloader and third party rom support.
lots of companies are locking their bootloader, huawei decided to no longer provide bootloader unlock codes for their customers.

At $800 price point you're essentially buying a mini computer, you should be able to do whatever you want with it and google android facilitates that better than apple iOS.

You think the average person who can by an $800 outright wants to do all of that?

My father called my to help him figure out this gmail shyt for his personal email and this is a guy who manages 500 employees using his iPhone and iPad. Go figure :francis:

i agree with OP. When Microsoft entered the cellphone game with Nokia they were only chargin $400 full price no contract for a flagship. I know because I bought the Nokia Lumia 920; the first flagship under windows mobile. It had better specs than most phones and was the first to have wireless charging in 2012 but i would not have paid the OFF CONTRACT iphone 5 price for it because MS was new to the game and had no reputation as far as mobile devices.

Somewhere tropic...
I love stock Android. My only problem with Pixel phones is that they haven't recreated the build quality of the Nexus 6p.
