alright. well i am 25 years old with 2 kids.

i have been working at a nice breakfast restaurant franchise for 5 years. i worked my up from being a bus boy in high school and now i am a server. i am very well respected and have a good amount of clout.

anyways my dad got a job 5 months ago at a decent company that's been running for 15 years. they really like him and he got promoted out the ass within these last couple of months.

my dad has been telling me in the next couple months he wants to bring me along to his job as an area manager. he will train me and everything and it starts at 45K but in a 3 months it will go up to 55-60K

so it sounds like a no brainer right. well it just so happens that the restaurant i work at is finally opening up a third store and they have approached me about being a manager. it pays 55K but will pretty much take years to move from there. there's a line of about 6 other managers that have been there for 20 plus years so moving up would take a long time.

my dads job seems to be expanding and if i don't fail at my job ( i wont i am a very hard worker) i could be making 70K in a year.

my issue is do i stay a restaurant that is guaranteed to be open for a very long time ( 1st one has been open almost 40 years) make a decent salary and hope to move up in 5 10 years. or do i take a risk on working with my dad and making it big, only for the company to go belly up in 5 years. i also want to make my kids proud and i don't want them to have to have a dad that works at a restaurant his whole life.

i am in a bind boys. daps for sound advice.

and i always write in a really stupid format on forums so my bad. been doing it forever

Im gonna assume you're not serious.
But in case you are, go with your father and use that 5 years of experience to branch out to other shyt.

You can always go back to waiting tables.

You're 25 years old. This might be your last opportunity to take a chance. I'd strongly consider taking the job with your father.

take the route of your pops breh, 5 years time you'll have more experience in other work fields and maybe move onto something else beyond that.

and who knows, maybe the business might not fail and it turns out to become successful :manny:

yea the experience is probably the one thing making me lean more towards that.

its weird being in this position. it all came up so fast. 5 months ago i was plannin on serving tables until i had enough dough to go back to school.

never been on the come up in my life i hope shyt works out

Money isn't everything. You've been at your current job so long I'm sure you like it and your well respected. If you leave you are taking a risk that you won't like the new job or they won't like you.

Its not his fathers business.

His father can't guarantee him shyt, only give him his "word"

Besides, a reputable franchise looks better on a resume, than some no name company.

Take the experience from the reputable franchise, then bounce down the road, if there's no room for advancement.......

Take the position with your Pops. If the company booms further, so will your backpocket. Worst case, you would have gained experience in a whole nother field with an Area/District Manager role under your belt.

You've gained a good amount of experience at your current job that I have no doubt you could probably jump back into the Restaurant Management field, if it came to that.

The important thing is do you like what you do now? Were you hoping to some day land the manager gig? If so, continue on. Can never go wrong with an established business. If it's just a job and not a career to you, then consider the alternative with your Dad.

Exactly!! If yu play yo cards right ur in a win-win situation! If it was my choice I would follow my dad's job because it looks like you'll have more responsibility and you'll grow more from it.
