Stay with the restaurant breh... Your father as your boss (he trains you) and he doesn't own the business, so its not family protected. Stay at the place where you busted your ass and earned their respect.

Not somewhere , where everyone will think you a daddys-boy (he only worked there 5 months), they prolly dont respect him, as much as he thinks.

The way I see it is 55k on your own strengths, or 45-70k cuz that's your old man. (lets say 60k).

I'd take the 5k cut, I earned this, and my pops don't hold shyt over my head

Area manager vs a server. What am I missing here?

Unless you really like the restaurant business, you should try the other gig. you can always go back to being a server.

Go for the job with your pops. Worst case is that you can use your serving experience to get a job serving somewhere else if the job falls through. Just work hard to distinguish yourself from your pops on the job so they look at you as your own man and not just your dad's son.

Are you at IHOP?

I would stay with what you like to do, which seems like the restaurant thing. Also working with family is not always the best thing especially if you dont own that business. I would also recommend for you since your concerned about moving up the ladder with the restaurant company, to take business classes or any other classes for credentialing so you can move up faster and have some education behind it. Especially if your black because that will solidify your place essentially.

I say you should go work with your dad

leave your current job on good terms, don't be a nikka about it.

and if you are respected as you say you are, you should be able to go back if you ever need to
