Wouldn't we be calling this a cult if this behaviour applied to anything else?

The root issue that nobody is saying ..... there is an underlying belief that Conservatism is Christianity and is right and Liberalism is sin and is wrong... instead of being corrected this belief is used as a system of control... for the love of money is the root of all evil.... The democrats aren’t perfect either, but now for the first time in a long time they finally have a spine

I think it’s a deeper problem of a large tenet of faith comes from believing in something even when nothing supports it. And suffering for that shows your faith. So they support politicians who actively hurt them and think their suffering will be rewarded.

So the Republican ideology of speaking to victimization( someone is taking this from you) and only by believing in me will I fix this resonates. Replace Mexican with Satan and you’ll see how much it sounds like a sermon.

Democrats talk about fairness and group action but that’s not what many religious types speak to when getting their congregation to act.

:ohhh: I’ve never really made that connection.... whenever I hear people talk about “Our Country” I never feel like they are talking about me and I was born here. So I imagine they look at immigrants coming across the Mexican border as a threat to their “idea” of America.

I mean you are going to hurt your brain trying to make logic out of the illogical.

You have to separate the politicians from the rank and file GOP. The politician knows its BS. He's just making a link between why the GOPers feel like they are failing with people coming across the border and stealing success(as if that's quantifiable). The GOPers can feel like they now have a face to their pain. As if their slot to making it into the upper middle class is number 100 and that Mexican is coming to take it. If the Latinos weren't here, he'd be wealthy.

The reason Trump never talks about the people seeking asylum cause that would make them victims. He talks about drugs and violence and stealing free healthcare and never paying taxes. As if the opioid crisis is caused by six year olds and their moms fleeing gang violence.

Immigration is the new abortion issue. America is dependent on illegal immigration that is why the Trump golf course was still employing illegals weeks into the shut down. :heh: He has been firing some of these people for the sake of appearance, but i'm pretty sure a sizable number of workers at Trump properties are immigrants (guest workers and illegals)

The truth is business interest won't allow politicians to pass and enforce tools that work like E-Vefiry. It would be detrimental and very disruptive to businesses in the hospitality, construction, food e etc.

Building the wall is just a symbolic fight that rulers in the GOP can use to galvanize their idiotic and racist base.

The have and have nots.

Trump or Stone gets one of their mistresses pregnant in an abortion free America isn’t going to stop them from getting across to Canada or England for one. Now Becky in Alabama whose boyfriends condom broke? Sorry for ya.

So the party of personal responsibility is legislating responsibility for others when no one can force any evangelical to have an abortion.

Just before 7:30 a.m. Monday, NASA employee Darryl Lomax returned to his office in Greenbelt, Md. to carry out business as usual. It was just a week ago that Lomax applied for unemployment benefits to help his family survive the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. On that day, the 53-year-old spent the afternoon at a community event geared toward connecting furloughed workers of color with critical health and social services.

Now, Lomax admits he had to psych himself up to report to work at the place he’s been employed for the last decade.

“I was saying, ‘Ok I’m ready to go back,’ but mentally and physically, I’m worn down,” Lomax said.

The five-week partial government shutdown took a damaging toll on his personal life. After Lomax became furloughed in late December, the Bowie, Md. resident fell behind on child support payments to support his 17-year-old son. Bills piled up, his vehicle broke down and his eight-year marriage came to a sudden end.

“I felt like I needed a vacation, because the stress level was so high,” said Lomax.

As for the unemployment application, Lomax said he’ll allow the 21-day processing period to continue to run its course. That’s in large part because the deal President Donald Trump signed to reopen the government applies only to the next three weeks.

“So I have to find out if that’s going to affect the [unemployment] process,” Lomax said. “Do I have to start all over again and wait for another 21 days?”

As the hours wind down on his first day back to work, Lomax holds on to one glimmer of hope: he should receive his backpay by Friday.

‘That’s When The Stress Builds Up All Over Again’
The road ahead remains uncertain for Lomax and about 800,000 federal employees across the country who went without paychecks during the shutdown.

Workers missed a second paycheck last week. Many of those employees were considered “essential” and worked without pay, but all will be paid in full for the shutdown’s duration. Many contractors with the federal government are not expecting backpay.

Lomax said the paychecks this week are crucial, because workers might find themselves cut off again next month.

“The thought of three weeks hanging over us,” Lomax said. “That’s when the stress builds up all over again.”

Until a long term funding bill is passed, Lomax, a human resources specialist, plans to focus on getting his department back up and running to full capacity. That includes triggering the process to onboard new NASA hires, who were supposed to start work during the first week of the shutdown. Lomax is contemplating when their first day of work should be.

“We might even try to see if we can get them in sometime this week,” Lomax said. “But with so much going on, who knows.”

Trump could have just stopped talking about the wall. Nobody really would have questioned it.

lowkey I forgot all about that shyt until he started bringing it up again. I guess maybe his base was still expecting something or it was just all a diversion from the Mueller shyt. He failed in two ways.

He failed on the wall/shutdown front. Nancy got him. Then he failed to get Mueller out of the news, because the news cycle since the shutdown ended is all Stone :mjlol:
