Help me out, they will need 60 votes to pass the chamber and break a filibuster... more than the GoP has... why do people in this thread keep saying the GoP controls congress like that means something on this measure?:dwillhuh:

Because this has never happened before when a single party controlled everything and speaks to how hyper partisan and divisive politics has gotten.

Obvious things seem to confuse you often:hhh:

Because the fact remains that, because republicans are the majority, they could have co-sponsored numerous clean bills on CHIP and DACA leading up to this. The Dems can’t just put a bill on the floor, they need turtles permission to get a vote on something. If these bills were done before another CR, instead of continuing to kick it down the road, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. This is all republican and trump created.

Asked if Trump would attend if the government is still shutdown, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said: “I don’t know that that’s very likely. I wouldn’t imagine it is."

Graham is a key member of a bipartisan group of senators trying to reach a deal to resolve the shutdown and a member of one of the smaller bipartisan groups trying to find an acceptable compromise on DACA, the program that allowed undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to stay in the country. Senate Democrats are filibustering a short-term government-funding bill over the impasse over DACA.

we'll see what the details are. But I refuse to believe Republicans will give up much this early in the game. They play tough and would have gladly dragged this out for weeks if they could. I mean look at the fukkery from that twitter thread @tru_m.a.c posted as their first proposed concession. It was absolutely terrible.

So my guess, and I hope I'm wrong, that whatever concessions democrats got would be laughably pithy and they will grab on to the symbolic victory.
