Alright, this isn't as bad as I initially thought. CHIP's good for six years and they can hold McConnell's feet to the fire if he doesn't hold a vote on DACA by the 8th.
Looks like Dems got the better end of the deal. The shutdown is still on the table unless something in secret was discussed we don't know about. But you still get the six years of funding for CHIP.
Here is my thinking on the Republican thinking for agreeing to this. They probably feel more comfortable removing the burden of CHIP which they probably view as more politically volatile and prefer to hold Democrats accountable more on the DACA to frame it more as Democrats shutting down the government over illegal immigrants. Not that they didn't already do that but I guess now they remove the possible counter argument of them holding CHIP hostage in return fire.
