Legacy and Influence[edit]
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five are a well-respected group in the history of hip hop music. They have been honored at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors in 2005 and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. displays in their historical archives the vinyl records and the turntable used by DJ Grandmaster Flash.[14]
They have influenced many musical acts[15] such as The Cold Crush Brothers, Run-D.M.C., Whodini, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One, EPMD, Stetsasonic, Doug E. Fresh, Salt-n-Pepa, Ultramagnetic MC's, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Eminem, Pharoahe Monch, Busta Rhymes, DJ Quik, Beastie Boys, Hieroglyphics, Too Short, Wu-tang Clan, Digital Underground, NWA, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Ludacris,[16] Heavy D, among many others. Ice Cube recorded a song titled "Check Yo Self" with Das EFX, the remix of which sampled the music of "The Message."

Listen i respect everything grandfaster flash and furious five has done. I love the message, freedom, new york new york, etc. some of our favorite songs were sampled from furious five. i will always give respect to our pioneers in the music game. But that's where it ends. im riding with epmd. the sampling, lyrics, delivery, beats. epmd is one of the greatest rap groups of all time.

Melle Mel is in another league when it comes to EMCEEin compared to E and Parrish.

EPMD had the better overall production and had the albums and singles while Flash and the Furious Five had the singles.

Both Flash and Scratch are legendary DJs but Flash is Iconic while Scratch is technically the better DJ.

Damn...I listen to more EPMD as a whole BUT...are we including the period of Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five?? How many hours are left??

That's what I'm sayin'. F5 got classic records, but you match that up against EPMDs first four albums, sheeeeeit. The Message is a classic among classics, no doubt. I, likewise, would rank it over any EPMD single if I had to do an all-time list. But you know who else has one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever? Audio Two, but their catalogue can't fukk with A SINGLE GROUP Wacky has in this bracket. That iconic record doesn't automatically trump YEARS of consistent bangers. That's EPMD.
