I do think sometimes the media (and fans) overhype certain teams b/c of their roster, without context for fit or age.

I look at that Nuggets team: Melo, Iverson, Jr. Smith, Camby, Kenyon Martin, Nene

And I look at that Blazers team: Stoudemire, Smith, Pippen, Sheed, Sabonis, Schrempf

And from a distance they look like :ohhh:

But when you take a deeper look, you start seeing the cracks and why things started crumbling after a season or so.

Then you see other rosters that seemed match made in heaven for what they were trying to do, but just couldn't get over the hump

I voted Suns because at least 4 of these teams were not over hyped
exactly. Those other teams had talent but they weren't expected to go to the finals because of the competition. However, that Suns team was the precursor to the GSW dynasty. Steve never got to the finals and his best chance was one broken nose short.

How did the Blazers and Kings even make this list?? They were minutes away from going to the Finals :gucci:
Sure, but they choked in epic (or embarrassing) fashion and were nothing but 1st round fodder for the Lakers in the years that followed.

The Kings seemingly had next but they stayed losing in game 7s when it was time to level up ('02 Lakers, '03 Mavs, '04 T'Wolves), the first of which I understand people blaming the refs for game 6 but I also remember the Kings still choking away at the foul line in game 7, outside of maybe Bibby.

Take the Suns off that list.

They were gonna win the Larry O'Brien that year. If Stat doesn't get suspended it was a wrap.

When Stoudemire got suspended the series was tied 2-2

It wasnt automatic they were winning WITH him...IF anything those Suns teams were massive chokers on top of underachievers.

They choked the series away in 2005 against the Spurs in the first 2 games at home and then blew Game 5 in 2007 against them in the dying mins...

Those Suns teams were talented but had mental block in big moments...

Yea, I guess the 2012 Lakers :patrice:

I was tryna keep it to teams whose core hadn't already won/found success. But i can see the argument, most of the roster was different even if Kobe/Pau/Artest was still there.

I’m just going by your actual title of never sniffed an NBA Finals. The clippers, rox, etc were never even remotely close to getting to the Finals

SSOL Suns by far... The hype for them compared to what they actually ended up accomplishing (marginally more successful than the lob city clips) is on a level of its on... The cac hoops media/journalist types had a "if your erection lasts longer than four hours, please consult a doctor" level boner for that squad... You can go back and revisit the write-ups bout them and might need a barf bag for the nausea... Steve Nash is the only multiple mvp to never play a second in the finals... fukk the fact that Steve Nash had MVPs at all, let alone two... @profasi (whatever his name is now) was the most insufferable fakkit of a stan of a team in combined :hamster:/coli history... All this, over the course of multiple years...And never made it out the west

Suns hands down

I gotcha, that's my bad. I meant most disappointing team that couldn't get their ish together to even reach the finals, despite the hype.
