They beat Houston right before ASB
Then lost the next 4 after the break all at home :pachaha:

Again he was a lost cause. Even how he handling Edey and GG Jackson. Edey been starting damn near all year and now he not even the first big of the bench. GG Jackson started like 3 or 4 games due to injuries and they got sent to the g League the next week. Scottie Pipen Jr gets a double double nearly every time he starts for Ja. But gets dnps when Ja comes back to let Desmond Bane run backup point guard and dribble off his foot.

Again, the team is ass, but the coach was also ass. And the Gm isn't going to fire himself :camby: so he had to go.

I was hoping we could miss the play in and get in the lottery, but realized the wizards get our pick this year.

(Another reason the gm should be fired too)

I see a lot of cats saying it's too late in the season to fire him, but I beg to differ -

The fact of the matter is, they've been struggling to play .500 ball since early Feb (losing 13 of their last 22 games), looking like they were trending in the direction of being food in the playoffs, regardless of their seeding. I see this as a way to reset a team who were clearly looking like they were coming off the rails, and now they're essentially been given a lifeline before the postseason.

That doesn't mean it's necessarily going to work, but if they can capatilize on this honeymoon period (as teams typically go through after they fire a coach), they can use that new lease on life to carry them in the playoffs.

Now, I don't expect them to do shyt in the postseason, but at least this way they've given themselves a better opportunity to make some noise, even if it is of a placebo effect.

This may be so, but the coach wasn't the biggest problem here. Their biggest problem is that their 'best player' can't stay on the court and firing Jenkins doesn't fix that. 28-15 with Ja playing.

Well, unless Memphis found a way to infuse adamantium into Ja's body, it looks like firing Jenkins was the next best thing.

Not that I agree/disagree, but it seems they view this as their only realistic hope of quickly changing their outlook before the playoffs.

And the more I digest it, the more I like it, in theory.

I think we've been conditioned to believe a coach shouldn't be fired this late in the season, because it could upset rhythm, team dynamics and structure, and the squad has to start anew. But is that really worse than the path they were already on with Jenkins who most likely lost the lockerroom and both parties clearly had reached the end of their tenure together? Why run it back in the playoffs if that's the case? A lot of cats overlook just how fast players can adapt, hence why more often than not whenever a coach is fired, a team suddenly starts playing winning basketball (even if it's for a finite period).

And look, the only real change here is there's no more Jenkins.

The essential* assistant coaches and staff who prepare this team are still intact, so it's not like the Grizzlies have to adjust to some grand changes.

No they don't.

They'll be running the same system because the coaching personnel that implemented it are still there. The changes they made to their offense this season had little to do with Jenkins.

Funny enough they fired two of the guys that got hired because they were known for running his system

It's a mess. I love it

That element of it does seem strange to me, but I gather because Iilaso is being kept on (because he embraces PnR more than LaRoache did), that they're wanting to feature Ja and Edey a bit more, if only to placate them given how the system functioned this season where their roles weren't as central to the success of the offense.
