Last time I remember them winning on the road in extra innings was with Tonkin closing out the game. It might have been before the All Star Game

They have a hideous approach at the plate when runners get into scoring position. They just forget everything about hitting and go for the fences on the pull side every swing. This above all else is why Cashman and his staff need to be fired. 12-27 in road extra innings games over the last 5 years. By far the worst mark in baseball over that span. It shows a complete inability to adjust situationally and to hit with men on base.

The abysmal late inning numbers show the hitting philosophy of this team is absolute trash and getting us nowhere quick. Add that with terrible talent, this shyt is to be expected.

The 1996 team had 4 different guys who won the batting title at least once and also had Derek Jeter in the lineup. You’d think these idiots would realize batting average and situational hitting matter since some of them were around for the dynasty years.
Think about the 8th inning rally off Pedro in game 7 2003, the cardinals 9th and 11th inning rallies in game 6 of the 2011 World Series, the 9th inning of game 4 of the 2009 World Series, the dodgers in regulation in game 1 of the World Series last year and all of game 5, the royals in game 5 of the 2015 World Series vs the Mets, the go ahead sequence in extra innings of game 4 vs Cleveland last year, or I think the angels game 6 rally against the giants in 2002. Know what those examples all had in common? None of them featured a single home run. All base hits, doubles, steals, taking an extra base on a single, and sac flies.

Same story every day. 1-8 with runners in scoring position already and 6 strikeouts. Their entire approach to hitting is just bad all around. If 99 doesn’t put the ball in the seats, they don’t score. It should be at least 3-0 already if not more but they’re lucky to have any runs at all.
