2019: roughly $55 million in payroll on guys who suck100%
If Hal is whining that the Yankees aren’t profitable, then get out of this business.

Like I said, he’s poison to the sport. We had our first repeat champ in baseball since 2000 this year and the vast majority of the league has won it all or at least been to the World Series since 2000. The only problem is the owners who refuse to spend and even if there was a cap, they’d still spend the absolute bare minimum on payroll and refuse to spend at all on the rest like the bengals do for example so they’d still suck. The real goal is to drive down player salaries and bust the union. Doing this with fully guaranteed salaries for the players would be catastrophic for teams with bad general managers too so bad teams would stay bad even longer.MLB already has the most parity of all the 4 major North American sports.
A salary cap isn’t for competitive balance.
It’s for ownership’s greed.
Maybe things would be different, but I believe the wrong brother died.

Nobody spends more money, I don't believe, on player development, scouting, performance science. So these all start to add up. If you want to go look at the revenues, you got to somehow try to figure out the expense side as well. You might be surprised."
Nah Hank was trash. Hal never wanted the job, but now that George and Hank are dead and Steve Swindal got kicked out the loop he probably feels like he owes it to them to keep it in the family. That's why Cashman has a bulletproof job. You're not wrong...at least Hank had some fire and cared and had some of king George in him. Hal seems like the stuck up sibling who never wanted to run the family business but won't sell because he craves all of the accolades and esteem that comes with it.
The dodgers have a lot of money coming off the books but they also have a lot of guys getting well into their 30’s. It’s a bit of a tightrope walk for them going forward.I wouldn’t say that about parity and baseball as it looks like the Dodgers are about to go on the same run we did in the mid 90s to early 2000s.
Money well spent is still the key, and the Yankees for all their concern of payroll just are simply ran by the most out of touch clueless people in the sport.

I've already come to terms a couple years ago that this team isn't doing anything until at the minimum cashman's fired. It helps me get through the seasons and not get too stressed over what happens. I care but not very much and I have hope but very little.
I’m sure Hank had his issues, but short of becoming a John fisher or Bob nutting type owner where he’s openly cool with losing 100+ games a year, Hal can’t really get worse than what he’s doing. You can’t cry poverty when you own the Yankees and you can’t be upset over payroll when you refuse to fire Cashman. For whatever bad that might’ve come with Hank, I refuse to believe he’d have let Cashman stick around through now. The guy’s farm system has developed 1 hitter (2 including Gardy) and 0 pitchers in nearly 30 years on the job while the last free agent position players he gave a contract longer than 2 seasons to were McCann, Beltran, & Ellsbury back in 2013 and before that was Teixeira in 2008. If you’re gonna complain about payroll, you have to fire that guy.Nah Hank was trash. Trading Stanton wouldn’t help this team. He was 2nd on the team in average and OBP this year with both numbers being good/respectable. The problem is the lack of anyone else who can carry the offense if he or Judge go cold. Their refusal to commit to developing Dominguez led to them going down with the ship in regards to Grisham even as he batted .180 over the final month of the season and the infield being a disaster. A near $300 million payroll and they’ve got to have the worst infield in baseball. The Toronto series was on the players shoulders....players that BRIAN CASHMAN is responsible for.
Trent Grisham - 2 for 17
Cody Bellinger - 3 for 16
Aaron Judge - 9 for 15
Giancarlo Stanton - 4 for 15
Anthony Volpe - 1 for 15
Jazz Chisholm - 2 for 14
Austin Wells - 3 for 13
Ryan McMahon - 3 for 10
Paul Goldschmidt - 1 for 4
Jasson Dominguez - 1 for 1
I've been calling for Stanton to be traded for years now. But everyone's obsessed with the "playoff Stanton" narrative. The dude just isn't good anymore.
Volpe, Wells, McMahon, Goldschmidt...these are all players that Brian Cashman has acquired because he refused to actually spend money in free agency when guys like Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper, Corey Seager, Trea Turner, Carlos Correa, and others were available.
He didn't even aggressively push to trade for Manny Machado, before he re-upped with the Padres.
Now the rumor is Fernando Tatis could be out for the taking, and Cashman likely won't do that either.
Even worse, you've got Yankees fans claiming there's no room for Tatis on the Yankees. These are the same guys who would have turned down the A-Rod trade because "we already have a shortstop"
What do people really expect these current Yankees to do?
I can only repeat it so many times.
You need hitters who can actually HIT.
Not 8 Joey Gallos.
Actual HITTERS.
Even a Bobby Abreu would be a god on this roster.![]()
