I guess, I'm not even thrilled with how they've booked Orton either tbh. the whole feud didn't really make either man look better. And the matches were handicapped by bad finishes. An odd story that mostly felt like complete waste of time.
Orton still playing backup bytch to HHH. fukking placeholder for the real WWE champion HHH

Vince Calls SSlam a "Swing & a Miss"
During today's conference call to discuss the third quarter financial results, Vince McMahon said he was not happy with this year's SummerSlam buy rate, and felt fans didn't "buy the attraction." He went on to say that for PPV, you need the right attraction, and SummerSlam was a "swing and a miss" for WWE.

---------

Cant wait til he sees the battleground and NOC buys then :heh:
* Night of Champions – 175,000 buys (compared to 189,000 the year prior)

honestly, did better than i thought it would lol..

Summerslam 2011 (Cena vs Punk) = 296,000

SS 2012 (Brock vs. HHH) = 358,000

SS 2013 (Cena vs. Bryan) - 298,000

Just for the record. What dos this teach us, fellow classmates?

Lesnar was on this year's SummerSlam too.

Nobodies buying anymore of these shows anymore because they realize only Wrestlemania Season truly matters. And they've pushed it that way since 2006.

Live crowd reactions don't mean much these days for ratings or PPV buys. Honestly, for a fan like me this has been a great year for WWE. The in-ring product has been great between Bryan, Shield, now Rhodes brothers, Usos, Lesnar's couple appearances, Punk, etc...

Problem is still the writing. Most casual fans buy PPVs or tune into RAW because they are intrigued by the stories and especially the spectacle. That's why an initial encounter between Rock/Cena can do so well even if everyone realizes the actual match might not be that great. Plus, casual fans aren't running out to buy PPVs other than WM like that anymore... They are too expensive and the payoffs have sucked.

The Bryan story line started off well and HHH has been an effective heel authority figure but the shyt got convoluted real quick. Creative should suffer most of the blame but Steph would never admit fault... It's easier to just write a guy like Bryan off and just plug Cena who has drawn back into the main event scene.

I don't think Bryan is going to fall TOO far down the card because he's still one of the more popular guys they have... but I don't see this big WM payoff. It's more likely he's involved in a secondary feud heading into Mania.

but remember, daniel bryan vs. John Cena* wasn't a big build-up. It was straight up Cena saying "i guess I'll face daniel bryan :yeshrug:." It wasn't a multi-month drawn out fued which ALWAYS sells better. They exasperated the situation by teasing daniel bryan fans for months vs. RKO*. I expect buyrates to dip, and bryan to take the fall.
I agree with @saysumthinfunnymike , WWE has been entertaining as hell compared to recent years. Cena actually has new blood in the main event scene and its working wonders (Punk, Bryan, Shield, etc)

People talk about how bad about Vince Russo was but Vince Russo was right, no one cares about these little vanilla midgets on a grand stage. People forget how bland WWE was when Bret Hart and HBK were in their prime (93-97), that "New Generation" shyt was corny as a mother, its just nostalgic nowadays for YouTube purposes but i would never want to go back to those years.

Russo took WWE to new heights when he added that realistic, gritty feel to the WWE programming from 98-99 and once he left, WWE died. After Russo left WWE in 1999, Vince McMahon ran with Russo's previously planned writing formula for 1 year and after that, Vince couldnt think of any new ideas, Thats why WWE died in 2001, they tried new ideas of their own like the Invasion idea and the Brand Split idea.

WWE is just back to where they have always been, a circus like company with a cult or passive fanbase of moms and kids, the Attitude Era kids are all 20 somethings adults now getting their blood thirsty combat sport fix from UFC and even UFC stole some WWE type ideas with their catchy hype promos and twitter beefs to spark interest in ppvs.
