regularly bench
pressing 200 pounds and above
- swore i was beasting when i was adding plates every other week till i started training for the military and realized how much i sucked at push-ups, sit-ups, and cardio. Left bench pressing alone for a whole year and focused solely on cardio and core workouts, lost 65 pounds and knockout my Military PT with relative ease yearly.

Right now I’m training for a half marathon so it’s still cardio/core>>>weights but i do plan on adding occasional bench press back in my routine for the sake of toning. Nothing above 175 though. For my goals, i can maximize with that with stuff like countdowns and emphasizing depth over the number of reps.

How much being able to press 300 plus pounds doesn't really show your true strength. I was benching close to 275, squatting over 350ish, blah blah but couldn't do an actual pull-up. Bodyweight exercises are underrated as hell.

Fam, i see it every year. Brolic dudes failing the sit-ups portion of their PT test and/or unable to finish a mile & a half run without needing oxygen from the EMTs. Really changed my perspective on true fitness.

yeah thats when I decided I'd rather be overall in good shape than just in gym shape...When I took an APFT and I maxed the pushups and situps and didn't even score 70 points on the run....I rather score 70-80 in each event....

I've mainly bushed heavy lifting as well as regular bodybuilding protocols. Like some of y'all, I got a lot of gym strength, but not all of it translates to actual fitness. I'm leaning more towards those metabolic workouts with a lot of supersets and circuits. Been good for my overall cardio and keeping muscle mass.

Also gotta put more emphasis on bodyweight exercises. I could bench and row a lot of weight but could barely do push-ups or chin ups :mjcry:
