i remember all the wu diickriders whining about the album cause it wasn't full of rza production, like usual. i thought it was dope as hell too. fame was another great concept track on that album. gza never really has had a bad album come to think of it.

Yeah, Luminal also as far as storytelling. Gza ALWAYS been ill when detailing a song. Remember running this one back a couple times.

:whoo: a gza thread on the coli with more than 5 responses... maybe the booth isnt complete shyt

GZA depending on the day is my #1 MC, never falls out of the top 5. i mean, its funny cuz he's recycled raps off of words from the genius for later songs and they still be dope as shyt, cuz nobody heard words from the genius.

Yea, a lot of the Wu spit rhymes on recent stuff that they've been using for years...even decades.

Bink is the star of The Blueprint. Just came correct on Girls, Girls, Girls but other than that Bink! killed him & Kanye. 'You Don't Know' was always shrill and ear piercing to me...Just Blaze beats tend to do that....like 'The Champ' on Fishscale....fukkin' beat hurts my ears. literally.

i'm not gonna front tho, the only full GZA album i've listened to is Liquid Swords, one of my fav albums of all time, might have even played it more than 36 Chambers but i can't get with how the flow has been dead for a long time there's no energy in his bars anymore. songs & verses here & there it's dope of course but i can't remember the last time i wanted to just sit and press play on a GZA solo joint.

sidenote, does this beat sample one of the Wong Fei Hong songs? i think Jackie Chan sang the version for the Once Upon A Time movies and it sounds kind of like the melody but maybe it's just the chops.

If a guy makes one of your favorite albums of all time, why wouldn't you listen to his subsequent albums?
i have listened to them a bit but i just can't get into them. maybe i'm closed minded because it's not RZA on the boards. the last GZA album i had in heavy rotation was Grandmasters, that was ill.

I get that. EVERYONE was apprehensive about the second round of Wu albums. But once you get over the shock of Rza having a minimal role in it Beneath The Surface was an album most everyone i knew genuinely liked. Sure it's a bit colder and lifeless in the beat department but there are legit BANGERS like 'Amplified Sample', 'Crash Ya Crew', 'Breaker Breaker' etc....the title track too.

The good thing about Wu Tang albums is they have legs. I hated Deck's first album up until last month when I dusted it off. I now like it quite a bit. Same shyt with Legend of the Liquid Sword. When it dropped i thought it decent but a bit too slow beat wise. Years wear on and i still play it every now and then and find gems. That's one of Wu's best attributes. The density of their craft make the albums hold up.
