I remember coping Beneath the surface when it first dropped being pretty disappointed that GZA lost his rawness from liquid swords, Arabian Knight did most of the production on the album whoever the fukk he was, it was like GZA became a born again Christian he just stop swearing had no more rawness from liquid swords.

To be honest my favorite track from Beneath the surface was outro with La the Darkman and Timbo King, that shyt was hard.

Whole album is underrated. Remember the first time I heard publicity. shyt blew me away. Violins reminded me of some Robin Hood midievil times type shyt:wow:

Hip hop fury was another classic:ohlawd:

This song was an improbable hit for me personally. The beat shouldn’t have worked for me at the time as it’s synth based with light drums. I think the song was always edited for curses. But Gza is so damn nice and unique I ended up loving it and the album.

I am comfortable and I love you
I revisited this album a couple weeks back. Didn't amaze me when I last heard it in full 10+ years ago, but its got some joints. Hip Hop Fury is the best song IMO. Went back to Words From the Genius, and that album holds up well too. Songs like Life of a Drug Dealer are extremely well written and an omen of what was to come with his second album.
