I just think the music isn’t hitting because it’s not what a lot of these young girls are like. I don’t know what her lane is supposed to be.

Someone more familiar explain her vibe to me because when I first heard of HER someone told me she was the R and B more talented black Taylor swift or some shyt.
She’s an updated Alicia keys - writes, plays, good voice (Alicia used to have a good voice). But whereas Alicia’s music fit the time she came out and she was able to also have appeal to people like my parents, HER seems to resonate mainly with people my age (older millennials/late gen x crowd). Her music is more akin to what we grew up on, it’s not high key toxic, it fits our life stage - shes got positive relationship songs that appeal to people who are in love.

Summer, SZA, and even Ari to an extent make music for women 15-35 who are smack in the middle of dating, casual sex, dealing with toxic relationships or immature men, being self conscious. Of course 18-34 is who determines what’s hot, and HER hasn’t really captured them.

I just hope that there's still a market for what she does among our age of fans because objectively she's a great artist. And... R&B needs more of her end for the sake of balance.
I think the trick may be to steer her into a crossover lane. I hate that Beyonce about to run the country thing because HER doing a mostly acoustic album with the strings tuned white has a chance to get played outside her music's usual reach. That said, music these days seems to be all about getting a 15 second soundbite somewhere in your song that people'll want to have over their TikTok/Reels :snoop:

I'mma pull for HER forever tho. She from the Bay, legitimately a complete musician and her music isn't a net negative on the community that consumes it. She definitely should be bigger than she is.

Unless you're Beyonce most of these R&B singers going to be Fantasia status when the next generation comes along. I also think being a "singer's singer" is closer to what Summer Walker is than H.E.R.

H.E.R basically got her own lane because she's basically the goto when a big event needs an authentic female guitarist/instrumentalist.

Cosign with someone else who said her biggest mistake was choosing the name H.E.R for no other reason than it makes it harder for people to search for her.
She has no lane. She just favored in the industry

And the thing is she will be fine. The thot & B artist is not sustainable. Where is SZA? She is Bryson Tiller status(remember him? :mjlol: That second album flopped hard? Summer Walker will to. What other song bubbling outside the drake feature. HER has a solid fanbase. But her musical approach of releases is awful

She’ll catch a wave in her 30s. There’s a mature lane for her.

My issue with HERs music is its background music. I like Some Kind of Way but not much else. She needs a cowriter/producer.
