Cole's an example too. Except the execution was botched. He brought about a certain fanbase on the mixtape circuit, but didn't really deliver that same type of music on the albums, and then stopped putting out mixtapes. Basically he had to cultivate an entirely new fanbase and in the process lost a lot of his steam.

i disagree, putting out mad mixtapes waters down your value and is something artist use for a "quick fix" just to stay relevant but don't realize that less is more and quality will always prevail over quantity! Drake hasn't put out a mixtape since SFG, is he losing any steam? Plus Cole went platinum easily, what steam are you MEASURING by?
