He would have been regarded as like a Post Malone type cat, disrespected and made fun of by the rap community for the duration of his short stint, than we would have exited the genre and went full pop back in 2009.

Bird cashed in big time on the kid, but in doing so, struck a fatal blow to the sound and purity of the rap genre. :wow:

He was hot by association... So Far Gone was ass, just like the rest of his garbage discography

Drake stans where you at? :umad:

Nah

Let's not act like these songs never happened

Nobody has ever gotten MAJOR radio play on not only 1 but 2 songs off a mixtape

Especially with no previous albums or singles

Not saying Wayne, Baby, or Jas's (Prince's) influence didn't help put the records together or promote Drake

But the casual fan had no idea who Drake was when those records hit

And they both HIT

With no appearance or mention of a Young Money, Cash Money or a Rap-A-Lot

Like I said, he would have been regarded as a pop act

lol if you think Drake wasnt signed when SFG dropped....

I actually like SFG a lot, Drake's best IMO, but dude was definitely signed on the low.

Breh, try and erase the idea you have of Drake for a second and listen to those records

Nothing about either record said "pop act" when they came out

They were both very good to great mainstream hip hop records

Records that would've been hits by damn near any artist, regardless of their affiliations

They were that good

That's why Drake caught on

He never needed Wayne, Baby, or Young Money

I personally thought he was an idiot for signing a deal

I prayed he would be the first artist to say fukk the industry, cake off his own talent,

and inspire the next wave of super talented artists to do the same

Nah, I know he was signed by then

Just saying his early success wasn't due strictly to them

They may have put him in position, but Drake won initially, because his songs were just that good

He didn't have to come out screaming Young Money, Rap-A-Lot or feature Wayne on the records they gave to radio

And both records were hits

but the constant radio spins were because he was signed:yeshrug:

but i feel what u saying. Even in Comeback Season era Drake had a little buzz. He probably would've had a career either way even if it was some indie shyt.

But if not for JPrince/Birdman affiliations I'm sure Puffy isn't the only one to smack dude by now:francis: Whatever happened to the guy that pissed on him:mjcry::dame:

I would believe that if they were subpar records, but I wore both them shyts out my damn self, and was sick of them by the time they started getting played on the radio

Those records were undeniable, breh

Them shyts could've come out on Tommy Boy in '06 and they still would've been hits

Gotta give props where props is due

History books aint gonna be kind to Kirby. Deep down inside we all know his discography is weak, dated and only got by based on hype.

SFG only got like 4 jawns thats listenable to this day. Debut was Trash. Weeknd saved Take Care (only like 2 non abel influenced track that are hot) , NWTS forgettable, IYRTITL (scandal) , WATTBA (riding waves) , Views (weak pop shyt)

Like I've said before, Views is the beginning of the end of Drake.

When people look back, what will be remembered is that the kid got the special treatment for no damn good reason.

If not Cash Money he could have been on Roc Nation and he was already Rap-A-Lot. He was going to be hot, dude was an A&R's dream...

Drake was always pop since '09 but he wasn't given pop treatment because he proved himself as a spitter. Still even then a lot of nikkas hated Drake. Shyt he had to convince me I thought that Best I Ever Had was trash. He was killing all those mixtape tracks like Stuntin' and Ransom. He showed out on Birdman album and the Young Money compilation in '09. He was killing the rap joints on So Far Gone too like Ignant Shyt, Say What's Real, The Calm. The rumblings then was he was writing for Wayne. Also, he had Comeback Season and Room For Improvement out where he was spitting.

Whose making memorable hip hop music then? All them projects are 7.5's or better except Views. Y'all nikkas go through great lengths just to hate.

So Far Gone only has four listenable songs?
Thank Me Later was trash?
Take Care only has two songs worth listening to outside of the Weeknd tracks?
Nothing Was The Same was completely forgettable?

What does this make 95% of other nikkas albums then nowadays?

That nikka Drake has his finger prints all over 2010's hip hop from his own shyt to all the features he's done he's going to be eating way after he's done how is his discography weak? Say what you want about Drake not writing and hopping trends but right now he can do a concert or release an album of just b-sides and featured verses.
