We had this debate a couple of years ago but since both careers are done, it's still Hakeem, but Duncan is not as far behind him as some would think. Hakeem was of course a transcendent offensive talent but they are close defensively and Duncan is a lot more accomplished.

Their offensive games are debatable too if u account passing since Timmy was clearly better at that

Hakeem was more dynamic as a player.

Tim Duncan came into a great situation.

That's not to say that he wasn't an elite in his own right, but everything landed perfectly for him which tends to clout people`s mind whenever Duncan is rated in these types of discussions.

Robinson body was falling apart and he missed all season with a broken foot

Pop fired the head coach Bob Hill and he became the coach of the team himself

Sean Elliot, the second best player on the team, missed half the season with injury to.

So tell me, how the fukk is a guy going to a team where the franchise player missed pretty much the entire season due to injury, the second best player on the team missed half the season due to injury, and the head coach has only been an nba coach for 1 year, and that team was so bad they got the number 1 pick, "a great situation":gucci:

Timmy and it's not even close...

Hakeem was more aesthetically pleasing to watch but...come on :gucci:

5 titles vs 2 titles

2 mvps vs 1 vmp

3 finals mvps vs 2 finals mvps

10 all nba 1st team selections vs 6 all nba first team selections

8 all nba 1st team defensive selections vs 5 defensive selections (maybe 6)

Hakeem has 2 defensive player of the year awards and Timmy has 0 but anybody who watches basketball knows that its :mjlol: that a guy who is considered one of the best defenisve bigs ever doesn't have a dpoy award in his trophy case...

Timmy played longer...won more...put up elite numbers...had quite a bit more team success...

I don't understand how you compare guys when one of them has more finals mvp's than the other guy has finals appearances...

I swear these are just sneak Tim Duncan diss threads...:mjlol:

Somebody already posted how Timmy played in a system when the whole system was built around him :mjlol:

I see somebody said Hakeem is better cause he had more 40 point games :dead:

This place has turned into the first take of sports websites :dead:

Players who player shorter and win less titles and win less individual awards are better than players who play longer and win more titles and win more individual awards:mjlol:

The team wasn't bad tho.

Previous to the injuries they were actually a playoff team.

David Robinson although he wasn't a superstar, he was still playing at an all-star level when he was with duncan.

Duncan was a perfect piece for them & the spurs were a perfect team for him.

You talking about old bad back DRob coming off a broken foot:mjlol:

The whole reason Timmy even ended up on this team is cause DRob body fell apart :mjlol:

Duncan has 9 40pt games in his entire career. How in the fukk is that being dominate? Not to mention Hakeem is number 1 in blocks all time and top 10 in steals all time. Duncan is no where close to being dominate like Hakeem was. Duncan just played with a better team in a era with no big men besides Shaq

Being dominant is more than just scoring 40 a game, Ben Wallace and russel were dominant and they weren't great scorers

Duncan averaged 25 15 5 and 5 in the 03 finals one of the most dominant finals series of all time

The west was tough when he was in his prime:dahell:. He had to face the Magic led Lakers up until 91 and by then you had the Sonics, Jazz, Spurs, Run-TMC Warriors and the Trailblazers...

Jordan had the Cavs, Old-ish Pistons teams and then The Knicks which he should've had no trouble against. You can say the Magic, but they only had shaq for what? 4 years and MJ was only around for 3 of those iirc

Edit: Kenny Smith even explained why on Open Court. He said that they struggled against Seattle, but always beat the Jazz(or it was the other way...)

You downplay the magic but then bring up the run tmc warriors who weren't contenders and were only together for about a year and you also left out the late 90's heat and pacers, the 80's celtics, 76ers,hawks and bucks

Nah with that SYSTEM he played in combined with the players he played with, you know you're going to win 50+ and the playoffs. They just won 61 games without him this season. :hubie:
Before Duncan got there the Spurs were still winning 50 games with Bob Hill as the coach. Duncan was the transcendent player that make them title contenders every year. It's a reason Pop used to say he would retire as soon as Duncan did and the only reason he didn't I believe is cause he still ended up with another generational talent in Kawhi.
