This what to expect when the conqueror has Ingrained his thoughts deep into your psyche. As long as your hair is clean there should be no problem. Being natural is frowned upon in this usa society. How much of yourself are u going to give away for a paycheck?

Hampton sells out for trying to teach the group that has the highest unemployment rate how to be presentable?!? :what:

Memo to black men: If you want to look unkempt, like common thugs or just plain old ungroomed (and let's face it...alot of y'all don't keep your dreds neat and clean) work for yourselves.

Teaching is one thing, but FORCING all the MALE students in the business department that pay the school 30+ thousand a year to shave off their dreads and braids is completely different... its just not their place and its complete bullshyt... thats all we're saying..

I used to sit in on interviews. I tell you no lie...when it comes to dressing for job interviews and formatting a resume black men are LOST.

Schools...especially HBCUs...should feel obligated to enforce some type of dress code to get these folks prepared for the REAL WORLD.

You are sadly mistaken if you think employers aren't going to judge you based on your appearance. First impressions are LAST impressions.

If you are trying to go into a BUSINESS environment like Bank of America or some other fortune 500 company you better SHAPE UP!

I personally believe men SHOULD have a groomed appearance. Most of the black men I see walking around with braids and cornrows LOOK unkempt.

If I'm doing the hiring and recruiting at YOUR SCHOOL do you think I'm going to want this shyt representing my company and business???? :heh:

Think about the reality that schools like Hampton are trying to attract potential EMPLOYERS and JOB FAIRS. If you got nikkas in the business department walking around looking like common street nikkas how do you think that makes the school look???

I bet you won't see this nonsense on the campus of Harvard (your competition for those fortune 500 jobs).

I think that dudes with long hair are ugly. Dreads and cornrolls will have my looking over you for dating, promotion, anything.

:whew: at the whole post

you know we got a lot of black panther jrs on here to dumb to realize how the real world work.

black people already get judged for their skin once they walk in the room. matter of fact once their name is read off the paper. having braids or dreads just puts up another barrier for you if you trying to make it. thats just how the world works, but im sure one of our freedom fighters on here that are so upset about the rule are going to go out and change the perception of how the business world looks at long hair (on all races):dwillhuh:

It's not right that they have banned long hair but in the real world you already have a strike against you for being black. Then you have another strike against if you are a black male. When people in the corporate world (even black people) see a young black man with dreads they just assume thug or criminal to them. It shows a lack of knowledge of other cultures but that's the world we live in. It is not right but i know that at least 90 percent of the people i know with dreads are somewhere working in a warehouse if they are working at all.

Did you dudes read the article or skim through it? Its not a long hair ban; its a dreads and cornroll ban. There was no mention of 'long hair' in the article.

And Hampton isn't a 'high level corporate job', its a university.

Do mostly white universities have bans on certain hairstyles? I'm not sure (I'm not currently in the position to do the research) but do they ban normal hairstyles that are frequently worn by white males of the age group? I doubt it. If they ban hairstyles, they probably ban crazy radical shyt. And if they have long hair bans, its just a long hair ban regardless of style.

There's nothing specifically radical about dreads. Or cornrolls for that matter. Nothing. So why the ban? This would be the equivalent of a Jewish university banning those little curls some orthodox Jews rock. Its cultural but most importantly, its extremely common. Treating it as radical (or political as one dumb broad put it) would treat blackness itself as radical. Its dreads. It doesn't get more normal than that, with the exception of a mini-fro.

If Hampton wants a uniform connected to the school, fine, tell the students to wear a uniform. If there's a long hair ban connected to it or if there's a long hair ban at all, okay that's cool. The same is true for corporate jobs and the like. But don't single out cornrolls and dreads. Hairstyles we've been wearing for 100,000 years? If you don't see the slave mentality in defending such a thing, you're lost.

People get discriminated by their names. Do y'all really think they wouldn't discriminated by wearing dreads?
