I'm an accounting major in NYC. I have dreads. Everybody working on Wall St. I encounter notices first how well put together and articulate I am. So Hampton :pacspit:

It's just hair. You aren't less qualified for an office job just because you have dreads. If that's the case then you're dealing with stupid cacs or c00ns that you shouldn't be working under anyway.

I was about to go to Hampton. They were tryna recruitin' me like shyt. Went for the visit program and everything. I don't have locks but glad I didn't go anyway. :pachaha:

One of my ex girlfriends was really trying to get me to go there with her so bad. It was hilarious. :heh:

I get what he was trying to say, but essentially/technically, he was still wrong.

This mandate applies to Hampton's MBA program. If you were serious about starting your own business, I doubt you'd be in anyone's MBA program. It would be more counterproductive than beneficial, making whatever point he was trying to make pretty null/void being that your typical MBA program applicant is not really focusing on entrepreneurship.

Hampton does have an undergrad entrepreneur's program. This no locks, cornrows mandate doesn't apply there.

then you're dealing with stupid cacs or c00ns that you shouldn't be working under anyway.

What blacks don't realize is that black people cut hair off on their own when they get into the corporate world and the RESULT of that is white people saying "Well... blacks cut their hair off when they get into the corporate world. That's what they do." Same thing with black women and perms and weaves. Whites think black women are supposed to have straight hair in the workplace because black women decide to never wear their hair naturally. If blacks really wanted to challenge white people first they need to set a standard and keep that standard. Imagine if white people told other groups they weren't allowed to have their hair/dress in a certain way. That won't fly because people have cultural standards that they maintain even in the corporate world. it also helps that those other groups aren't overly dependent on white men to get jobs. And there is a difference between keeping your ethnic hair and keeping unkempt ethnic hair.

Well, no other HBCU has this mandate, pretty much making your connecting points (Hampton forbiding locks/cornrows in their 5 year MBA program all the way to HBCUs teach you how to work for white people) pretty obsolete/illogical.

Also, every major HBCU I know of has a degree program for entrepreneurs or a center where you can go get counseling/mentorship or even apply for funds to start your business, making your original point invalid again.
