As fukked up as it is, dreads/cornrow hairsytles ARE frowned upon by alot of corporations. It's racist and fukked up, but it's true.
I was in a Six Sigma Green Belt Class a few years ago and there was this brotha in there who honestly didn't know that companies gave nikkaz the side eye who had dreads/cornrows (he has dreads). He was talking about how he was looked over for some promotions at his company (works for Honda) and was wondering why. This other black woman who was in there with us (works for Dupont in senior management) told him the deal with certain black hairstyles. She said when she started in the corporate world, she was kinda loud with her fashion (flashy earrings, dresses, shoes, etc.). Another senior black exec told her she needed to "tone it down" for her benefit/career advancement.
He was like

when she broke it down to him.
We both were like "no one ever told you?
He was like no.
I felt bad for that no one (especially other blacks at the company) never dropped that jewel on him.
These cacs in these companies don't like certain hairstyles. If you are black with dreads/cornows, your opportunity for advancement is

. They won't come out and say it, but it's one of those things you need to know. They treat dreads/conrows the same way they treat mullets, mohawks, visible tats. You get the bushes on advancement if you rock those shyts.
Banning the hairstyle while you are paying for an education, especially at an HBCU, is rediculous though and beyond c00nerific. Educate the bruhs and let them know the deal is about it, but let them enjoy their shyt in college. As long as you let students know the "risks" career wise, that's fine with me.
One to grown on bruhs....
