Houston as a whole fumbled the bag collectively
I feel like that was mostly out of their hands tho. The Houston scene blew up at the wrong time IMO cuz as soon as they did, the ATL scene was already gaining a ton of momentum and pretty much overshadowed damn near all other regions of the South. Houstons movement simply wasn't big enough to compete and along with that, they weren't unified enough cuz there was a lot of inner conflict going on amongst the big dogs there.

Puff Daddy as an artist. He ran 1997 and much of 1998, and quickly became public enemy #1. He even made a single out of it. He went from being everywhere to being the most hated entity in Hip Hop. He had a platinum album in 1999, but this is dude that was previously 7X platinum with chart topping hit after chart topping hit.

Iggy Azalea had everything in 2014. Two of the biggest hits that year had her name on it, people were trying to start a rivalry with her and Nicki Minaj. Everybody was worried about white people taking over hip hop because that was the same year Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won all those awards.

Then 2015 hit and it's like she lost her ability to make people care about her.

Ya'll gotta be trolling.

Nas debuted in 1994 and was selling more records in 2012 than he was in 1994. That's 18 years after his debut. Dude has three or four double platinum albums, like four or five more than went platinum and a couple of gold albums. And on top of that, he's considered one of the best to ever do it.

If tables were turned, and somebody were to say Wayne, ya'll would be working over time posting Billboard articles.
